Seniors:

It was a case of so near and yet so far as David Moran’s point attempt in the 33rd minute looked to be sailing over the bar but just dropped short denying us what would have been a deserved point – as a result Stacks held on to register their first win and leaves us mid table with 3 points from 4 games played.

Stacks were boosted before the throw-in with the addition of Kerry panellists Dylan Casey and Greg Horan – Casey went corner back on Conor Hayes and Horan joined Michael O’Donnell at midfield.

Stacks were first out of the blocks and wind assisted had 3 points on the board before we registered our first score, a pointed free from Darragh O’Connor in the 10th minute – by that time we had already lost wingback TJ Heaphy to injury and he was replaced by Ben Hanafin.

The half progressed with Stacks in the ascendancy but we kept the scoreboard ticking over with points from Darragh (2), a fisted effort from Gearóid Dillane and a lovely score from a free by David from distance – we were 0-05 to 0-07 in arrears heading into the final minutes of the first half but then calamity struck when a short kick out was intercepted,  allowing Shane O’Callaghan to find the net for a fortuitous score and he quickly followed up with a point leaving the half time score at 1-08 to 0-05 in favour of the visitors.

We resumed the 2nd half with the introduction of Shane Brosnan at centre back in place of Chucky and though we had points from Conor Hayes, Darragh again and Ben Hanafin, Stacks too were finding their range and were 1-10 to 0-08 ahead with 20 mins left; a Stacks kick out was well taken in the air by Seán Walsh who found Tommy who in turn found Darragh – though he had plenty to do Darragh weaved his way through the defence before finding the net and quickly added another point to leave the minimum between the  sides – we traded points again with Stacks Seán Quilter finding his range and were on level terms again ,1-11 each with 20 mins gone.

The fat was in the fire now and again Seán Quilter, now operating around the middle, continued to fire over points from play and frees garnering 4 in total – Darragh with 2 and David Moran with a long range effort reduced the gap to the bare minimum with time running out,  but try as we might we could not close the gap, the last kick from David dropping agonizingly short.

This was a fine game of football which at times was played with championship intensity – we shipped a few injuries and would hope that all players will have recovered in time for next week’s clash with Kilcummin,  who themselves had a double score victory over Milltown/Castlemaine on Sat night  – the game goes ahead in Strand Road on Sat night next 29th April @ 19.00

Team: Shane Foley, Jake Foley, Ross O’Callaghan, Darragh McElligott, Shane McElligott, Chucky, TJ Heaphy, David Moran (0-02), Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Gearóid Dillane(0-01), B J Keane, Sean Walsh, Darragh O’Connor (1-08), Tommy Walsh, Conor Hayes  (0-02).

Subs: Ben Hanafin (0-01), Shane Brosnan, Tom Hoare, Con Barrett & Conor O’Sullivan.

Division 6:

Our division 6 fixture vs Beaufort on Saturday night saw us pick up our first points of the league when running out convincing winners on a final score line of 3-11 to 0-08.

We were in control throughout the pitch with strong performances from midfielders Keelan Crowe and Fenton Collins who supplied plenty of ammunition for the likes of Seán Griffin, Daniel Bowler and Conor O’Sullivan which saw us lead at half time by 2-06 to 0-04 – the goals coming from Gearóid Meehan and a beautifully worked effort from Daniel Bowler who scythed his way through the defence before firing an unstoppable shot past the keeper.

We continued our second half dominance with good points from Daniel Nix, Keelan Crowe and Daniel Bowler before Jordan Foley began a move deep in defence and played a succession of one/twos finishing  to the net with aplomb to bring the curtain down on a fine display.

Team: Rob O’Connor, Stephen Nix, Sam Pituch, Aidan Mangan, Jordan Foley ( 1-0), Seán Collins, Barry Foley, Fenton Collins (0-01), Keelan Crowe ( 0-01), Gavin Burrows, Daniel Bowler ( 1-02), Sean Griffin ( 0-02), Daniel Nix ( 0-02), Conor O’Sullivan ( 0-03), Gearóid Meehan ( 1-0).

Our next game will be an away fixture to Tousist which is pencilled in for Sun 7th May.

Kerry got their Munster senior championship underway on Sat with a comprehensive win over Tipperary on a final scoreline of 0-25 to 0-05 in Killarney – the Munster final vs Clare will take place on the weekend of May 6th with time and venue to be announced.

It was not to be for Gavin O’Brien as New York bowed out of the Connacht championship when defeated by Sligo on Sat last – NY will now compete in the Tailteann Cup.

Limerick, with Mark Fitzgerald at the helm, were ousted by Clare in the Munster semi final but gave the red hot favourites a real test before losing out by a goal, 1-16 to 0-16 – their season is not over though as they will also compete in the Tailteann Cup.

NÓTAÍ NA mBAN

It is absolutely magical to see our teams return to training and games and watch our pitches become a hive of activity again after the unsettled weather we have had all along.

As we are now into the second quarter of 2023 it’s no harm in giving everyone a little gentle reminder about RESPECT!

Respect is a matter for all of us.

People of all ages attend games and play. We all need to have respect for our teammates, coaches, the opposition, match officials etc. Also as parents and coaches we need to give good example and promote giving respect to everyone.

An important focus for all in our club is the building of an ethos of respect, discipline and sportsmanship toward the opposition players, match officials and our own team mates at all levels of the club.

By all means be vocal in supporting our teams and come and enjoy but please have respect for everyone. Be positive! If you disagree with something keep your opinions to yourself and zip it!

When our players and supporters put on our jersey and wear our crest whether it be at a match or out and about they are representing our club. Let’s cherish every moment we can play, it’s long enough we were unable to because of Covid.

GIVE RESPECT- GET RESPECT. Be that person who helps create that wonderful atmosphere that makes Gaelic football.

Do you know any girls interested in joining our club? We encourage girls of all ages to come say hello, give it a try and have lots of fun. Please whatsapp or text Shirley (086)8713552.

U12 GIRLS

Our youngest of our ladies club put in a huge effort last Wednesday when they played Knocknagoshel/ Brosna in round 1 of the North Kerry league. The home team showed their quality with a flurry of goals and outscoring our team. We suffered a heavy defeat to the home team in the opening division 3 match. The girls battled hard throughout .The coaches wish to commend the girls for their never say die attitude. Maith Sibh!

Congrats to Knock / Brosna .

We  travel to Ballymacelligott next Monday for round 2 . Throw in will be at 6p.m. Best of luck!

U14 GIRLS

NCP, Division 4 v Ballymac

The Strand Road team settled into the game faster, taking control of the midfield and sending lovely balls into the forwards who put over some wonderful  points as well as goals into the back of the net in the first half. This continued in the second half with every player getting game time. Every team member performed excellently and the U13s are now fitting in well with the older girls.

The teamwork and passing ,as well as the confidence on the ball that the girls displayed was a pleasure to watch.

Well done to everyone!

U15 GIRLS

Our U15 ladies travelled to Finuge last Friday evening  in preparation for Féile for a friendly match.

Each of the 23 players got game time and all produced a terrific team performance , with the link up play and interchanges being only phenomenal. Well done to both teams . Thank you to Finuge / St. Senans for the invite.

FÉILE

A big day on bank holiday Monday for all ladies U15 teams and management as it’s Féile time …

WHAT IS FÉILE?

John West Féile Peile na nÓg is a club festival for Gaelic football at U15 level, involving teams from across the county. It starts with county competitions in each division followed by finals to become your county’s representative.

Teams participate in an annual festival of football and some clubs may get to experience playing against teams from other counties.

The values of the competition remain focused on participation, inclusion and most importantly making memories together.

Last year’s team went on to represent our county at regionals in Mallow .

Best wishes to everyone and looking forward to seeing plenty of support as always from everyone for this terrific bunch.

More details to follow once the venue is confirmed.

U16 LADIES

We played Ballymac in Rd. 2 of the U16 Co. League last Wednesday evening in ideal conditions in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard. There was never much between the sides with   points by Kelly Fitzgerald, Sara Reka, Ava O’ Connor and a goal by Aoife O’ Connell had us ahead at halftime by 1-05 to Ballymac’s 1-04.

Millie Hayes made some great saves in this half and the backs played well with Erika Slattery, Donna O’ Regan and Bjanka Qatja in the fullback line, and Sophie Culloty, Mia Molloy and Caragh Houlihan setting up the half backs. Both sides traded scores in the second half with great play from Saoirse O’ Connor MacCarthy and Aimee Turner. We had points by Córa Meehan, Kelly Fitz, Ava O’ Connor but Ballymac with a last minute goal put them ahead. Others to impress were Anna Corridon, Molly Casey, Naoise O’ Carroll, Allie Kerins and Fiadh McCarthy.
