The Kerry Badminton Season comes to a Close

The Kerry badminton season came to a close this past weekend when the Munster Interleague finals took place in the MTU arena in Cork. On the day, Kerry had teams competing in all 5 grades from H to D.

Killarney had 3 teams competing on the day in grades H, G and F and after playing some brilliant badminton through out the day all 3 teams came home with silver after each winning their quarter and semi-final matches.

In the grade D competition, Listowel first took on Carrigaline of Cork in their semi final. After taking the win their, they went on to face Ladylane from Co.Waterford in the final. After some very close games with a great level of badminton on show, Listowel came out on top and brough the cup back to the Kingdom.

They will now go forward to represent Kerry and Munster in the All-Ireland Interleague finals which are due to take place in Galway in mid-May.

In the grade E competition, it was a round robin format as there was only 3 teams in each respective competition. Castleisland fell short to Nenagh on on scoreline of 4games to 3 and then play went on to play against a strong Centenary team from Cork.

This game again went all the way to the end and unfortunately Centenary took the win on a scoreline of 4 games to 3. This meant that Centenary the gold and both Nenagh and Castleisland finished on 6 games a piece. But as Nenagh won the head to head they took home the silver.

In the grade F, Killarney beat Mallow in their semifinal in a game that was very close going all the way to 3rd mixed and the 3rd set of that game. They then went on to face a very strong Nenagh team in the final and unfortunately came out on the wrong end.

In the grade G, Killarney beat Thurles to win their semifinal and then went on to play Effin from Limerick. Unfortunately after some very close 3 set games they also fell at the last fence in the final.

In the grade H, Killarney first faced off against Roscrea in the quarter final winning that at 5 games to 2. They then faced Tramore in their semi final and again were victorious in their race to the final. They then came up against Garryduff in the final. In this case Garryduff played very well and on the day outplayed Killarney in the final.

After a great season of badminton for all involved, a word of thanks must be passed to those involved in the running and organizing of competitions from the start to the end of the year.
