Retired Garda, Kevin Breen, was at the All-Ireland final last year when his wedding band slipped off his finger without him noticing.

Dublin GAA supporters, Thomas and Frances Dunne from Coolock found the wedding band and set off trying to search for its owner.

After an unsuccessful appeal to reunite the ring on Facebook, they decided to make a last attempt by emailing the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE 1 Radio.

Inscribed on the missing ring were the words ‘Eithne/Kevin 28-12’ and also had the year ‘1971’.

Speaking to the Ray D’arcy Show on Wednesday Francis Dunne said; “My husband found a wedding ring at the all-Ireland final last year and we’d love to return it to the owner. We found it between two seats and every so often we pick it up and say, ‘we have to find who owns this’.”

Luckily, Kevin Breen, happened to be listening in when the appeal was read out live on air.

Now living in Skibbereen he phoned in and said; “Anything hinging around your wedding day you’re inclined to hold it very dear to your heart. After wearing the ring for 44 years I was very disappointed to lose it – it had so much sentimental value. I’m absolutely delighted it’s been found.”

Kevin did not spot he had lost the ring until Tuesday when he was shaving and washing his hands.

The Kerry man thanked the Dublin couple over again saying; “There are still a lot of decent people in the country”.

It is fitting that Kevin will get to thank Thomas and Frances Dunne in person when they handover his lost wedding band at the Kerry v Dublin meet in Croke Park on August 28.

Lets hope he holds onto the ring this time and gets a better result!
