TRALEE based food artisan, Guy Hulbert, is in the running for a  top award at the Listowel Food Festival.

After coming first in the ‘Pates, Meats and Seafood’ category, Guy, is now in the reckoning for the ‘Gold Medal Award’ which will be announced at a gala event on Saturday night.

If he manages to win the ‘Gold Medal’ he will be presented with a cheque of €1,000 along with the award.

Guy Hulbert is originally from London, but moved to Tralee with his wife nine years ago. He used to work with the County Council. Last year Guy started Hulbert’s Fine Foods which sells meat free pates, chutneys and relish.

Speaking to Traleetoday.ie earlier this year, Guy said…

“I saw a gap in the market and thought maybe there was a place for vegetarian or meat free pates,” said Guy.

“I wanted to try something else and I was always interested in food and cooking. I used to make the pates and give it to friends and they said I should sell it at a Farmers Market. It’s proved really successful” said Guy.

“I entered the Listowel Food Fair in 2013 and won the Best Emerging Artisan Food Product (Meat And Fish) Section for my Beetroot Cashew and Ginger Pate, which is actually a vegetarian product!” he said.

He can now add the accolade he won in Listowel last year with this one.
