Chopin’s Cafe And Restaurant

Ashe Street

I’VE already extolled the attractions of an Ashe Street establishment some months ago with a review of Mozarts.

Of course it’s not the only cafe which takes its name from a classical composer. O the same side of the street but just on the other side of the Courthouse lies Chopin’s.

It’s been there a good few years now but I’ve only ventured in there once before and that was just for a coffee.

I was passing on Friday and decided to pop in for a bite. I was quite surprised to find that, even thought it was 1.50pm, the place was almost full with just one table left,  by the window.

Then again, it is quite a small cafe. I took a seat and was promptly handed a menu. Chopin’s lunch menu consists of stir-fries, mixed grill, beef lasagne, steak sandwich, beef burger and more.

Of course they have a range of starters, soups and sandwiches, so, being in a hurry I opted for a panini (€6.95 with a salad) where you can select your own fillings.

I chose chicken with mozzarella and tomato and asked the waitress for the wifi password to check the news on my phone while I waited.

The password raised my eyebrow – ‘thebestfoodintown’. That’s a pretty big claim I thought.

The panini arrived and I must say I make a great sandwich. The chicken/mozza/ tomato combination was delicious and it was accompanied by a somewhat underdressed salad (the saucy minx).

When cucumber is in a salad there really needs to be a sufficient amount of dressing for flavour.

Anyway, it was washed down with a decent cappuccino and I left happy enough.
