A TRALEE woman holed an incredible 50 foot putt to give Ireland a 3-2 win over Belgium and victory in the European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship on Saturday.
Mary Sheehy from Oakpark was part of captain Pauline Walsh’s six-strong Irish team at Sierra Golf Club in Poland at the weekend and her amazing putt brought the title to Ireland for the second time.
Her opponent, Annick Riff, had levelled the match and tie holes were needed to decide the title. Mary holed the monster putt on the 21st for the victory.
Mary, daughter of former Kerry player and John Mitchels legend Niall, is a popular member of Tralee, Ballybunion and Killarney clubs and has represented her province on many occasions. A fantastic victory for Ireland and Mary.
