PENELOPE Cruz apparently gets anything up to 14 hours a night, while Catherine Zeta Jones and Renee Zellwegger swear  it keeps them beautiful.

Sleep is the most powerful rejuvenating treatment of them all.

From 8pm to 11pm is the time for hydration and stimulation, while 11pm to 3am is the time for nutrition and regeneration, and 3am to 5am is the time for resting.

Of course, very few adults are in bed at 8pm and as the hormone that triggers sleep – melatonin – peaks at around 11pm, this is the time we should naturally get tired.

Seven or eight hours of sleep is ideal for most of us. More than that can mean we wake up looking puffy and feeling sluggish.

Chronic lack of sleep, or poor-quality sleep, has an incredibly negative effect on the way we feel – and on the way we look.

When we are asleep, our cells rebuild and repair themselves (the growth hormone functions only at night). If you don’t sleep, this function is impaired.

If you sleep badly, you are likely to become stressed, and this can cause the capillaries to tighten up, affecting the flow of nutrients to the skin and scalp and causing the skin and hair to look dull.

Recently I reviewed ‘This Works’ and they do a great sleep range.

‘This Works’ is an award winning aromatherapy skincare range – designed to deliver what it says on the bottle.

The brand was founded by international journalist and beauty expert, Kathy Phillips, in 2003 and inspired by her global knowledge of the health and beauty industry and her desire to create natural products that deliver on their promise.

Kathy had to take a log of long haul flights and found her sleep was suffering and decided to look into  range to induce sleep.

So I followed three simple steps for the last two weeks.

Step 1: Deep Sleep Heavenly candle. A luxurious long burning candle hand-blended with pure essential oils of lavender and camomile – €33.

Step 2: Deep Sleep Bath Soak. This is an award winning fragrance that contains soothing lavender and vetivert and salts to help you get a good night sleep – €29.

Step 3: Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. Fat acting natural way to restore natural sleep. Expertly blended with essential oils of lavender and wild camomile from Provence. You spray your pillow or bed cover before you go to sleep. It’s clinically proven that 99% of people sleep better, 89% sleep faster and 92% feel more refreshed in the morning – €18.50.

The results were I started feeling sleepy earlier, like, proper tired!

So my sleep patterns have changed, I am going to bed earlier and sleeping better.

10 out 10 from me.
