Meals On Wheels Thanks Tralee Lions Club For Help As It Moves To New Home

MEMBERS of Tralee Lions Club had a chance to see the see the Meals On Wheels van in action earlier this week as the service moves into its new home on Rock Street.

The local Lions Club has been supporting Meals on Wheels Tralee for many years, from regular fundraisers to hands-on helping to deliver meals on wheels.

Last year, Meals on Wheels Tralee launched a fundraising campaign targeted towards organisations and businesses to raise a significant sum of €37,000 towards the purchase of an electric van.

Each business and organisation who donated towards the van now each have their own logo on the van for the people of Tralee to see.  The van arrived just in time for the Christmas deliveries.

Tralee Lions Club were one of the orgaisations, who sponsored the van and Paddy Kevane of Meals on Wheels Tralee thanked the Lions Club and all the other organisations and businesses for supporting this vital fundraising initiative.

“The van has been working very well over the past eight months and Meals on Wheels Tralee is absolutely delighted,” he said.

The official sponsors of the electric van are Kerry Group, Kerry County Council, Aherns Garage of Castleisland, Cara Credit Union, Tralee Lions Club, Terrys Butchers, Fenit Fruit And Veg and the HSE

Meals on Wheels Tralee is now located in the Tralee Community Development Project at the Rock Business Centre on Upper Rock Street (V92 WR9P).

Meals on Wheels Tralee was part of St. Vincent de Paul and was based in Ozanam House for over 53 years.  It will have its own separate identity shortly when it merges with Tralee Community Development Project and becomes a ‘new one brand’ organisation.

Meals on Wheels Tralee new kitchen is complete after an almost 12 month process.  The kitchen is complete but is now just waiting for phase 3 power before it officially begins.

Meals on Wheels Tralee is also expanding its services with the opening of a new café. The Café is set to open by October and will be open to every member of the public.
