Mid Kerry Minor Football Championship: Final Result and Match Summary

Milltown/Castlemaine 2-08
Laune Rangers 0-10

Venue: Paddy Burke Memorial Park, Milltown

Referee: Thomas Harold (Beaufort)

Milltown/Castlemaine were crowned Mid Kerry Minor Football Champions last Sunday afternoon after a super victory against Laune Rangers at the Paddy Burke Memorial Park in Milltown before a large attendance.

The foundations for this outstanding win were set in the opening half as Milltown/Castlemaine played with a strong wind and built up a commanding lead by the interval with Dara Hogan winning and scoring a penalty, he also tagged on three points and other pointed efforts from James Dempsey, Michael Lynch and Eoghan Bolger, all top notch scores from play gave the hosts a 1-06 to 0-01 lead heading into half time as Laune Rangers only first half point came from Stephen Gannon.

Laune Rangers were fast out of the blocks in the second half and two quick fire points from Adam O’Neill and John Horgan had the deficit reduced to 1-06 to 0-03. Probably the most crucial score of the match came next however as Milltown/Castlemaine’s Michael Lynch split the Killorglin sides defence wide open with a scintillating run and he held his composure to rattle the net. Dara Hogan followed this goal with a pointed free off the ground and all of a sudden the lead was now 2-07 to 0-03. Laune Rangers kept plugging away and applied maximum pressure on the home side with five points on the trot from Tomás Joy, Adam O’Neill and Darragh Clifford to leave it 2-7 to 0-8 after 47 minutes. Milltown/Castlemaine were in need of a score desperately to stem the momentum Laune Rangers had built up and Dara Hogan answered their call with a beauty off his left leg on the dressing room side to leave it 2-08 to 0-08. It would prove to be the hosts final score and try as they might, Laune Rangers were only able to muster two further points from Darragh Clifford as Milltown/Castlemaine’s rearguard held firm and they were able to prevent the visitors from creating any goal chances.

Congratulations to the team and management on a brilliant performance and victory which wraps up their 2023 season.
