Minister Announces Multi-Million Euro Extension At Mounthawk School

MINISTER for Education Norma Foley TD today announcesd official project approval for a second multi-million euro building project for Mercy Mounthawk Secondary school, Tralee.

Today’s major announcement project builds on the previous provision of an additional six-classroom extension to the Mercy Campus in Tralee.

The new project brief caters for six classrooms dedicated for the provision of special education with five pastoral rooms; one home economics room; two graphics rooms; two science labs and a prep area; two art rooms with six project store rooms; two construction studies rooms and six engineering rooms.

The Department will also provide funding for reconfiguration works to the existing campus which will create four new general classrooms, a new textiles room and a design and computer graphics room.

The first step in progressing this project is to appoint a Design Team to design and tender the project and oversee the construction.

Minister Foley said: “Today’s announcement is an endorsement of the school community at Mercy Mounthawk and recognises their tireless commitment, passion and endeavour to educating the young people of Tralee and surrounding areas.

“This ambitious building project will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the school community while also developing bespoke classrooms dedicated for the provision of on campus special education.

“A Design Team will now be appointed to progress this project and I look forward to seeing the progress of both of these projects and seeing the benefits they will bring to the local area.”
