Murt Murphy’s Tips For Day One Of Cheltenham

This week is like Christmas for racing fans, so sports journalist, Murt Murphy, is hoping to give gifts to punters with his top choices for Day One of the Cheltenham Festival…

In the 1.30pm opener I’ll go for Willie Mullins’ Melon. Willie reckons he is very good, although he has only run once over hurdles. There might be slightly better value with Ballyandy.

For the Arkle at 2.10pm, Altior is going to win it, no question about that, so don’t waste your money on anything else.

In the Ultima Handicap at 2.50pm, a good each way bet is Noble Endeavour who you might get at about 10/1.

In the Champion Hurdle at 3.30pm, Yanworth is a horse that keeps on winning, but Petit Mouchoir has a great chance with Bryan Cooper on board. Keep an eye out for him.

Apples Jade is looking good for the OLBG Mares Hurdle at 4.10pm with Bryan Cooper on board again. A nice each way bet would be Lifeboat Mona.

So enjoy the racing and pace yourselves with the betting…Cheltenham is a marathon, not a sprint!
