Scór: Scór is very much a ’niche’ activity within Na Gaeil. Of course we’re first & foremost a football club, but Scór is the cultural arm of the GAA and is a really great thing to be involved in – especially for kids. It gives them confidence & is good fun! If you’re reading this & think you might like your child to be involved, please contact Margaret at 086 0855008. Or better again, if you’re a parent with maybe something to offer to our small but enthusiastic Scór committee, please get in touch….

Senior Men: Our senior men were away to Beaufort last Saturday night in Round 6 of the Credit Union Co. League. On a perfect night for football it was Beaufort who got out of the blocks quickest and led by 4 points to 1 after just 6 minutes.

A point from play and a well struck 45 from our top scorer on the night Dara Devine got us to within 1 of the home side.

Beaufort added another point from play but then our lads took over and had their best spell in the game, notching 4 unanswered points in 5 minutes to leave us in a good position, 7 points to 5 ahead after 20 minutes.

Two Beaufort frees had the sides level before a free from Damien Bourke put us ahead once more. Yet another free saw Beaufort draw level before Dara Devine again showed his accuracy from frees to nudge Na Gaeil ahead 9 points to 8 at the half time whistle.

Unfortunately for Na Gaeil the first 6 minutes of the second half proved disastrous. On 3 minutes our defence failed to clear their lines and the home side snatched a goal.

Soon afterwards things got even worse when a high ball into the square found the Beaufort full forward and he gave John Kearney no chance, blasting the ball to the net.

Beaufort quickly followed with another converted free to leave us trailing by 2-9 to 0-9. To be fair to our lads they rallied and two frees and a 45 from Dara Devine reduced the margin to just 3 points with only 12 minutes of the second half gone.

At this stage it looked like we were right back in the game but sadly it wasn’t to be as we failed to register a score for the remainder of the game and Beaufort added 5 more points to their tally. Final score: Beaufort 2-14, Na Gaeil 0-12.

Kerry (Ladies) Munster Championship: Well done to the Kerry Ladies, especially Deirdre Kearney, Mary O’Connell, Bríd O’Connor, Eilís O’Connor and Jadyn Lucey, who defeated Waterford in Round 3 of the Munster Championship in Cordal yesterday by 1-8 to 1-7. The win sees them into the Munster Final on May 18th where they will renew rivalries with Cork.

Kerry (Men) Munster Champions: Congratulations to Diarmuid O’Connor and the Kerry team who defeated Clare in the Munster Final yesterday in Ennis.

Kerry Hurling: Hard luck to the Kerry senior hurlers, especially the Na Gaeil lads, who lost to Laois in Round 3 of the Joe McDonagh Cup last Saturday.

U11 Boys: Our u11 boys play Laune Rangers in Killeen next Thursday at 6.30pm in the Co. League.

U15A Boys: U15A county league result: Na Gaeil 1-7, Laune Rangers 2-10. A difficult Division 1 campaign came to an end last Wednesday night (1st May) with a home defeat to a strong Laune Rangers team.

Despite opening the visitors up in the opening plays we couldn’t find the final pass to breach the Rangers defense. Battles were fierce throughout the park and both sets of players were playing some superb football.

At the break we trailed 8 points to 3. The start of the second half saw our best passages of play this year as Samson Abubakar, Joseph Field and Darragh O’Callaghan thundered into the game.

Danny Kingston and Shane O’Donovan got on the scoreboard as we drew level with 10 minutes remaining. Rangers upped the ante and finished the stronger running out 6 point winners.

Well done to all players and with a period of training ahead we’ve no doubt that results will come with the talent in the group.

Team; Sean O’Connell, Donncha Hartnett, Gearóid Moynihan, Eoin Tansley, Sean Óg O’Connor, Samson Abubakar, Philip McEneaney, Maurice Costello, Darragh O’Callaghan, Joseph Field, Shane O’Donovan, David Buckley, Aaron O’Donovan, Danny Kingston, Jacob Drzymala, Ruadh O’Brien, James Kelly, Luke Gannon, Ruairí Lacey, Fionán Collins, Eoghan Daly, Jake Barrett.

U15B Boys: Well done to our U15 B team who made it two wins from two after a superb comeback win over Glenflesk/Kilarvan last Friday night.

The opening quarter was low scoring as both teams struggled to find their scoring touch. Despite apparent parity around the field Glenlesk/Kilgarvan struck a purple patch and banged in three quick goals, which could have been more telling had Seán O’Connell not pulled off two superb saves from the visitor’s penalties.

Coupled with a goal from Luca Cronin and the strength of our squad, we still had hope. At the small break we trailed by 9, 1-3 to 3-6.

In the second period Na Gaeil came into their own. The strength of numbers played a toll on the visitors as Krys Karpovic, Joseph Field & Ruadh O’Brien came to the fore. Philip Doyle covered massive ground and clipped three lovely points. Luke Gannon was very impressive on the night, his boundless energy a huge factor in the win.

As we led by 7 points with 10 minutes to go, our keeper Sean O’Connell faced an unprecedented third penalty of the game. Amazingly, for the third time he defied the odds and kept his opponent at bay, pending a record check, surely he is the first Na Gaeil man to save three penalties in a game!?

We finished the game strongly with Rory Lacey, Gannon & Field on the scoresheet. Well done all and thanks to Glenflesk/Kilgarvan for a sporting game.

Squad: David Buckley, Krzysztof Karpowicz, Philip Doyle, Ethan Doyle, Luca Cronin, Jonathan Sheehy, Finn Murphy, Rhys O’Connor, Sean O’Connell, Jake Barrett, Joseph Field, Eoghan Daly, Ruadh O’Brien, Ibrahim Altayan, Aaron O’Donovan, Rory Lacey, Luke Gannon.

Minor Co. League: Our u17 boys did just about enough to hold off a late rally from Keel/Listry in Round 2 of the Central Region competition last Monday night. This evening they face the long journey to Sneem to take on Na Fianna in their third and final group game. Throw in is at 5pm.

U18 Girls: Our minor girls were unlucky to lose by just a single point to Legion last Tuesday night after a marvellous 2nd half fight back. Their final game until after the exams will be tomorrow night when they take on Fossa in Killeen at 7.30pm.

Cispheil (Basketball): Last Wednesday in Tallaght the girls of Gaelcholaiste Chiarraí finished runners-up to Crescent College in the All-Ireland School’s A final. It was a great achievement for the school. Well done to the Na Gaeil girls involved namely Avril Doyle, Orla Costello and Niamh Fitzgibbon.
