Orlagh New ProfileSO it’s nearly here, the big day that every child in the country has waited for, Christmas.

The letters to the big man himself have been posted and now the wait begins to see if you are on the naughty or nice list.

There is such a lovely buzz around town it would warm your heart. Top marks and huge credit must go to those responsible for the magnificent trees and lights around the town.

It makes me proud to live here. With a surname like Winters it is very apt that Christmas is my favourite time of the year. Shop, hotel and pub displays are outstanding this year and there is a real sense of community spirit throughout the town and beyond.

There is a little touch of a feel good factor when you walk down the streets amongst the hustle and bustle. Tralee is my adopted home and I really love it here.

Before I moved to the Kingdom, I had my reservations, after living in a city for a good number of years, but I have to say that the friends that I have made here have quelled any such reservations.

Tralee is full of good people and I will always be grateful for those who have made this Galway Girl feel welcome.

I know that Tralee gets bad press sometimes but I think this is completely unjustified. Sometimes bad press can give you a preconception about a place but I happy to say in the eight years of living here I can categorically say that I have never had anything but good experiences in the town.

I just wish that all locals would believe in the gem that is Tralee.

Work by Frank Hartnett and his team in the Kerry County Council and John Drummey and the Tralee Chamber Alliance along with all the volunteer groups are responsible for making Tralee a wonderful town and it is up to each and every one of us to ensure that their hard work is not in vain.

Recently Tralee was awarded a huge accolade for its tourism and rightly so.

I have written before about having pride in your town and I stand firm in that belief. Try not to knock the town and look at the positives that are here to enjoy.

Amenities such as The Wetlands, The Aquadome, The  County Museum, the great hotels, pubs and shops are all great places to visit but most importantly the people of Tralee are what makes the town. Tralee has a lot to offer so go out and enjoy it.

Until next week,

Enjoy your town!

Orlagh xx
