THE academic year is coming to a close and for sixth years it’s a time of mixed emotions as they say farewell to schooldays.

While there’s the small matter of the Leaving Cert to be tackled next month, the attention of final year students at Presentation Secondary School was focussed on their graduation ceremony last Friday at St John’s Church.

As always, it was an emotional experience for everyone present as they reflected on their years at the school.

A mass was celebrated by Fr Mark Moriarty, including a ‘celebration of light’ with speeches from head girls Olivia Dillon and Maiya Rivas McHugh. Deputy Principal Chrissie Kelly and Principal Mairead Finucane also addressed the students and their families.

The ceremony ended with the students singing Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb’ but that wasn’t the end of the graduation day experience.

While families went straight back to the school assembly hall for refreshments, the students first opened the letters the girls wrote to themselves when they were first years starting in Pres back in 2016.

Cue gales of laughter, cringing and more tears on a day to remember for the girls. Scroll down for photos…
