AROUND 100 people showed their support for European Transplant Games hopeful, Stephen Byrne, at a table quiz in the Ashe Hotel on Thursday night.
The Ballyrickard man is Finland-bound and was raising money to go towards the cost of competing at the European Transplant Games this month.
A father of two, Stephen, is also looking forward to his first ever European Games having undergone a kidney transplant just a year ago.
A big crowd of family and friends – including a contingent from the Born To Run Club – enjoyed a great night of questions with loads of spot prizes provided by local businesses.
Stephen is part of an Irish team of 29 athletes that includes two other Kerrymen – Alan Gleeson from Listowel and Patrick O’Connor from Killarney. The Kerry trio are participating in the dialysis category.
The 9th European Transplant & Dialysis Games will be held in Vantaa, Finland from 7th –18th July and will involve close to 500 participants from 25 countries throughout Europe.
Every athlete at the Games will either have already received a kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas or bone marrow transplant or are on dialysis. Scroll down for photos…
