THE pupils of Presentation Primary provided some great entertainment for families on Tuesday as they held their annual Christmas Concert in the school hall.

This year it was the turn of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth classes to shine in music, song, dance and drama. Beginning with the national anthem played by members of the school band, the school choir were first up with a selection of well-known Christmas songs.

Mrs. Field’s third class performed a musical play called ‘Santa’s Hat’, where the hapless Santa misplaces his hat at the most inopportune time and needs his elves help to find it in time for his trip around the world.

Ms. Gibbon’s and Ms. Broderick’s fourth class pupils put ‘Santa on Strike’.
Santa has had enough and he wants a year off, but a variety of characters try their best to change his mind.

This play was written and directed by Mary Quirke of Qwerkreation Productions. Over the past few months, Mary has been doing Drama workshops with the two fourth classes under the ‘Artists in Schools Bursery’.

“This is an initiative funded by the Arts Council and this year we were lucky enough to be awarded that funding on the basis of a successful application process,” said teacher Helena Hennessy. “We’d like to thank Mary for all her hard work with the children. They have really enjoyed their workshops with her.”

Jane and Siún were next up performing a lovely ballet dance to the music, ‘Carol of the Bells’.

Then Ms. Hickson’s fifth class told the story of poor little orphan Annie, who is stuck in an orphanage run by the cruel and nasty Miss Hannigan.

The school ukelele players performed three well-known Christmas songs, Jingle Bell Rock, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Jingle Bells.

Next was the turn of Ms Lowney’s sixth class in a play called  ‘Lights, Camel, Action!’ It’s presentation style was a nod to ‘Dancing with the Stars’, but was set in Bethlehem and featured some of the characters from the Christmas Story.

Finally all the children returned to the stage to perform ‘Someday at Christmas’, written by the legendary Stevie Wonder and re-released this Christmas by Lizzo. And so ended another wonderful performance from Presentation pupils. Scroll down for photos…
