STORIES and images of families in the Mitchels Boherbee area are contained in the new calendar and CD from the Mitchels Boherbee Historical & Heritage Group.
The launch of their 10th anniversary calendar and fifth Volume of the CD took place in the The Munster Bar at 7.30pm.
Micheal Scannell Director of Services, Job Creation and Sustainable Economic Development with the Kerry County Council officially launched the calendar which features the Mullins, Moriarty and Breathnach families.
“One of the themes we adopted this year was emigrants stories,” said Paula O’Sullivan from the group. “We got a few stories and photos from people who had left the area. Pat Moriarty sent us many photos after seeing the story in TraleeToday.ie. The McDonagh family also saw the notice in TraleeToday.ie and sent us in material.”

“The calendar also feature the Breathnach family with Tomás Breathnach (An Greasaí) who won a worldwide photo competition. It also features the Goodall family and the story of how they came to Tralee.”
Johnnie Wall introduced Michael Scannell who spoke of the great community spirit in the area and said the future looked bright for Mitchels/Boherbee.
He said this year has been another positive year for the Mitchels Regeneration Project and he hoped that 2018 would bring further advancement on developments there.
He also said the new boxing club had gone to the design and planning stage and he welcomed the formation of a business and traders group in Boherbee.
Mayor of Tralee, Norma Foley, acknowledged the theme of family chosen by the group for the calendar and CD, as she said family had always been at the heart of Mitchels.
The Calendar and CD is available for free from community representatives in the area. There are also copies in Tralee Library and St Brigid’s Community Centre in Hawley Park. Scroll down for photos…
