AIDAN O’Mahony was on hand to start an event yesterday which was aimed at getting staff and students in IT Tralee together and moving.
The ‘Tri and Move ITT’ event was a combination of two events, a 5km individual/family fun walk/jog and a fun team triathlon.
The triathlon consisted of a 5km run followed by a 10km cycle and finished with a 500m swim (20 lengths at the Tralee Sports Complex).

The event was one of a broad range of proactive student and staff focused health promotion activities aimed at supporting, empowering and motivating all, in particular students, to make informed positive lifestyle choices that will support their wellbeing and enable them to flourish in third level.
IT Tralee’s health promotion project, newly named as ‘LIVE ITT’ has been established to support student and staff health and wellbeing, to coordinate health promoting events and projects on campus, so as to improve their effectiveness and impact, whilst also seeking to ensure that the Institute as a place of study is health enabling and health promoting.
LIVE ITT will build on the work already achieved through the sipITT project, which began in 2013, which focused on reducing the levels of dangerous drinking and the associated harms and promoting general student wellbeing.
Effective strategies and interventions to date have addressed with students such issues as drugs and alcohol, mental health, sexual health and sexual consent, healthy eating and physical activity. Scroll down for photos…
