THE launch event of Through Our Eyes, a youth-led photography experience supported by Kerry Local Creative Youth Partnership (LCYP) at Kerry ETB took place at Kerry County Museum on Saturday  to great success.

The Director of Schools, Youth and Music at Kerry ETB, Ann O’Dwyer was delighted to see how well the young photographers led the launch event and how engaging their work is.

The exhibition, located in the Audio-Visual Room in the Museum, features a series of largescale photographic works and a video documentary that charts their journey through Lockdown.

The project helped the group cope with the changes in their lives and discover their own creativity in a closed down world.

Tara Donoghue, the artist, educator, and photographer who facilitated the project for the LCYP, commended the young people for their commitment and creativity and the big wow factor that the images present when the visitor sees them upfront.

The project resulted in a photographic book, Through Our Eyes, designed and produced by the group themselves.

The publication raises funds for The Childhood Cancer Foundation of Ireland, a children’s charity, and is available at the desk at Kerry County Museum for €10.

“Seeing such fabulous work by young Kerry based photographers makes me very proud of this achievement today.  Connecting online and now in person to share the lived experience that was COVID in such a creative way, it shows how resilient you are and how resilient this project was,” stated Cllr. Jim Finucane, Chairperson of Kerry ETB who went on to congratulate everyone involved.

The launch event was well-received by the public, and the exhibition will run until Sunday June 25th.

Through Our Eyes is a touching portrayal of the joy experienced in simple things, and the sense of freedom which emerged for the young photographers as the world opened up again and travel was possible.
