Garvey’s Tralee Warriors further consolidated second place on the Super League table with their fifth win in a row overcoming Pyrobel Killester in the IWAS Clontarf last night.

The Warriors led throughout and a mix of dominant defence and a quality offensive display including a personal tally of 30 points from point guard Trae Pemberton proved to be more than a match for their League rivals securing a 90-78 win.

A fast paced opening quarter began with a three point score apiece from Rodrigo Garcia for the home side and Pa McCarthy for the Warriors.

Three scores from Luis Filiberto and another by Alan Casey were matched with a three pointer each for Eoin Quigley and Darren O’Sullivan and when Kieran Donaghy provided the perfect assist for Goran Pantovic to convert the sides were level mid way through the first.

With Paddy Sullivan finding his range and Ciaran Roe chipping in a score with the extra had Killester 6 ahead.

But the Warriors stormed back into the lead with Daragh O’Hanlon on the mark, Pemberton’s first three of the night and Donaghy finishing a slick move the visitors led 27-24 at quarter time.

Early free throws from Roe and a three from Luis Filiberto cancelled out the Warriors quarter time advantage but with Darren O’Sullivan’s second three added to by Fergal O’Sullivan and a bank shot from McCarthy the lead was restored.

The Warriors were finding scores from all areas through Pantovic, Darren and Fergal O’Sullivan and McCarthy but with Roe unerring from free throws and a three from Sullivan the sides were level inside the last minute of the half.

However a buzzer beater from O’Hanlon in the last act of the first half provided a two point cushion for the Warriors at the long break.

Killester wrestled back the lead through Sullivan and Luis Filiberto and through Roe and Casey continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over for the hosts.

But the Warriors put themselves into a game winning position with a volley of scores of the highest standard from Dusan Bogdanovic and the outstanding Pemberton.

Bogdanovic landed three scores in quick succession from close range before Pemberton stepped into fire his second three of the night.

Two more long range efforts and scores from inside brought Pemberton’s tally to 16 for the quarter and put the Warriors 7 ahead at three quarter time.

Despite Quigley and Fergal O’Sullivan adding early scores for the Warriors in the final quarter Killester refused to surrender and through Casey, Luis Filiberto and Roe they kept on touch.

However Pemberton’s sublime efforts from distance added his fifth and sixth threes of the night and when Fergal O’Sullivan followed suit the Warriors lead was out to 15.

Killester’s deficit on the scoreboard was compounded with 4 minutes on the clock when Kieran O’Brien received a technical foul and immediately after was ejected from the hall.

Pemberton landed the resulting free throw and when he added another couple from the line it brought his personal tally on the night to 30 points allowing the Warriors to assume total control of the outcome.

With seconds remaining Goran Pantovic slam dunked spectacularly to add a touch of class to a very impressive team performance from the Warriors and arguably their best of the season so far.

Scorers

Killester: Ciaran Roe 17, Paddy Sullivan 17, Luis Filiberto 15

Warriors: Trae Pemberton 30, Fergal O’Sullivan 13, Goran Pantovic 10
