Roger Harty: A Good Mantra

rsz_roger_hartyA GOOD workman always has the appropriate tools for the job.

Everything required is at hand which in turn makes any given procedure so much easier and stress free.

In life it is also extremely important to have readily available tools, but the type of tools I am referring to in this case are known as psychological tools.

If called upon they can make for a much easier and happier lifestyle. One such tool to have in the bag is ‘a good mantra’.

Now what is a mantra? If you ‘Google’ it you will find that there is no real agreement on exactly what is the definition of a mantra but the one I like is ‘a sacred utterance’ that if used on a regular basis will enhance one’s life.

They can come in many forms, such as repeating a positive phrase or another way is to utter a certain word that can connect us with a particular sound frequency. A good example of the latter is a constant repetition of the word ‘Om’ which is said to reverberate at a certain frequency.

This is very interesting because as I have always said – as human beings we are ‘balls of energy’ and as such we can connect with sound energy frequencies. Now when we repeat the sound ‘Om’ on a regular basis we connect with the sound frequency of 432 Hz. When we ‘tune’ in at this frequency we connect with our inner healing power by means of connecting with the heartbeat of the universe.

This is better known as ‘Schumann resonance’ and is named after physicist Winfried Otto Schumann who documented it mathematically in 1952. If you look up ‘Om Mantra’ on YouTube you will see that there is one such video which has 5 million hits!

Mantras, as I said, come in many forms and a great one I came across in the world famous book ‘The monk who sold his Ferrari’ by Robin S Sharma goes as follows; ‘Every day in every way my life gets better and better’.

This I have no doubt is a very powerful and rewarding mantra but it only realises it’s true potential for self enhancement when it is repeated over and over on a regular basis. It’s as if it takes a period of time for the body to fully tune into what it is told by the mind. Just like one puff of air isn’t enough to float a balloon!

It is also a lovely thing to come up with a personal mantra and I came up with such a mantra about 10 years ago at a time in my life when I needed all the help I could get.

I found this very helpful and I set up my mobile phone in such a way that it texted this mantra to myself early each morning on a daily basis. It goes as follows.

1. The success of recovery is in discovery.

2. Look for the extraordinary in the ordinary.

3. Smile

It was like a reminder to me on a daily basis to pay attention to these simple things and after a while it became like a roadmap in my life.

I can well understand how one could question the benefit of such mantras but all I can tell you from personal experience is that ‘They Work’ and like everything else in life the more effort and belief you put into them the more you get out of them.

Next week I am going to write about the first section of my personal mantra above – ‘The success of recovery is in discovery’.
