IT’S not that far away now!

The Cheltenham festival begins in three weeks and the next best thing to being there is the craic in The Castle Bar. In fact, many racing fans in town take a week’s holidays to enjoy the atmosphere.

Of course, the highlight at the Rock Street bar is the racing and the excitement associated with their famous Rollover competition, which has been running since 1998.

Like every year, there’s thousands of euro in prizes to be won and you can enter as an individual or get a few friends together to split the cost of the €100. Pick your horse in each race over the four days and try to earn as many points as possible.

The Rollover is just part of a host of events and entertainment which continues for a whole week up to St Patrick’s Day. On Tuesday, March 1o, there’s a Best Dressed Male competition and a Texas Hold Em tournament.

Wednesday is ‘Locals Day’ with Dingbats for charity and music by Noel McAuliffe. Thursday is Ladies Day with an array of prizes and music from Sean and Noel McCord.

Friday is arguably the biggest day of the year in the bar, with the biggest race of the festival, the Gold Cup.

While the festival is over in Cheltenham, the fun continues in the Castle on Saturday with a pool tournament, while Sunday has the ‘Castles Got Talent’ contest with €500 in prizes to find the best talent in town. Monday has ‘The Travelling Willberries’ and the Merseyside derby on the TV, while the week’s festivities concluded with all the craic associated with St Patrick’s Day.
