KABB BOYS AND GIRLS U10 BLITZ

Congratulations and well done to all our Boys and Girls U10s that competed in the KABB Blitz at Moyderwell on Sunday. It was an action packed day with great performances all round from our teams.

Well done to everybody who helped out on the day to make it such a success. Thanks especially to all the coaches and to the family and friends of our players that came in such big numbers to support the teams.

St. Brendan’s 30 Tralee Tigers 27
Presentation Hall was the venue for the eagerly awaited clash between Brendan’s and Tigers. When the teams met earlier in the league the bare minimum separated the sides so this was always going to be close.

Tigers were first to settle with Brown and Nolan dictating the pace and went into an early lead before Brendan’s Jack McCormack opened the scoring with 3 from 4 from the free throw line, followed by another 2 from the line by Cathal Concagh and one from Evan Healy.

Lucca O’Carroll and Shane Kelly were chasing everything in defence. Score at the end of the first quarter 14-8 to Tigers. Brian O’Donnell, David Scally, Joseph O’Sullivan, Ruairi Halloran, Abel Muntean and Shane Cotter never gave up in the second quarter but Tigers continued to dominate and we found ourselves 10 points behind 20-10 at the end of the second quarter.

Coach Liam O’Dowd rallied his troops at half time and Brendan’s looked more composed as Jack Mc Cormack and Brian O’Donnell registered 11 points between them to bring it back to 5 going into the final quarter, 26-21.

Brendan’s contested every rebound and loose ball in the final quarter and eventually Jack McCormack drew the game at 26 all having been fouled on the lay-up. Evan Healy got the final basket in the closing minutes of the game to leave it 30-27. This was a great performance by Brendan’s who dug deep to set up a semi-final clash with St. Joseph’s later in the month.

Team: Brian O’Donnell, Cathal Concagh, David Scally, Evan Healy, Jack McCormack, Joseph O’Sullivan, Lucca O’Carroll, Ruairi Halloran, Shane Kelly, Shane Cotter, Dean Dunne Hourigan, Abel Muntean.

St. Brendan’s 42 Gneeveguilla 33

St. Brendan’s played their first game of 2018 away to Gneeveguilla last Wednesday night and continued their good form with a 42–33 win.

This game was fast paced and closer than the scoreline suggests and Brendan’s had to dig deep to come away with the 2 points. Defence was very tight by both sides in the first quarter with all rebounds keenly contested.

Lucca O’Carroll opened the scoring followed by 2 from 2 from the free throw line from Cathal Concagh.  Seán Finnegan left the score at 6 all midway through the first. A great rebound by Evan Healy found it’s way to Shane Kelly on the fast break to leave it 8–6.

Jack McCormack added a basket before the end to leave it 11–10 to the home side. Gneeveguilla pulled further ahead in the second quarter despite the best efforts of Shane Cotter, Dean Dunne Hourigan and Abel Muntram.

Point guard Joe O’ Sullivan gave a great pass into Brian O’Donnell, who was subsequently fouled and scored from the free throw line. Ruairi O’Halloran added two free throws to leave it 20–13 at half time.

Brendan’s continued to work hard and play their way back into the game. Evan Healy won some great ball under the boards and registered 8pts in the 3rd quarter. We overturned the halftime defecit and were leading by 29–27 going into the final quarter.

Seán Finnegan was keeping Gneeveguilla in touch with 3 great baskets but up steps Jack McCormack to sink 2 three pointers in a row in the final few minutes to ensure a well deserved win for St. Brendan’s. Full time score 42–33. This was a great result for St. Brendan’s against a very skillful Gneeveguilla side.

Team: Brian O’Donnell, Cathal Concagh, Evan Healy, Jack Mc Cormack, Joseph O’Sullivan, Lucca O’Carroll, Ruairi O’Halloran, Shane Kelly, Dean Dunne Hourigan, Abel Muntram, Shane Cotter.
