Girls U15 League

St Brendan’s 36 St. Mary’s 53

We welcomed St. Mary’s to Moyderwell on Sunday afternoon in what was our first home game of the U15 girls league.

The visitors started stronger in the opening quarter leading 6-13 with Avril Doyle and Cora Meehan getting the scores for the home side. St. Brendan’s did have a better hold of the game in the 2nd quarter with baskets from Cora, and Aimee Turner having success from the free throw line left the half time score St. Brendan’s 12 St. Mary’s 22.

St. Brendan’s upped the pressure and intensity in the 3rd period which brought reward to their offence with Nicole Power and Penny Costello getting on the score sheet.

A three pointer from Cora followed by a basket and a buzzer beater 3 from Avril left just 2pt between the sides at the end of the third quarter 30-32. If Brendan’s purple patch was in the 3rd St. Mary’s came in the 4th.

Despite scores from Emily O’Sullivan and Kara Kirby the energy exerted in the 3rd along with getting into team foul trouble gave St. Mary’s the opportunity to take control of the game and they did not refuse running in baskets to close out the game.Top Scorers for St. Brendans: Avril Doyle 10, Cora Meehan 10, Nicole Power 6

St. Brendan’s 45 St. Joseph’s  13

What a busy weekend the girls have had out in Milltown Friday night in Presentation Hall on Sunday and a Monday night game this evening in Moyderwell hall against St. Joseph’s of Duagh. Two wins from three a good return from the weekend.

The girls are improving with every game and  looking forward to a really busy season with 22 league games to be played. The energy levels shown by the Brendan’s girls was unbelievable. First quarter was low scoring both teams seeing what the other had to offer.

Fiadh opened the scoring with two baskets and a converted free throw from joint captain Megan left Brendan’s trailing by one 5 – 6. Both Abbie and Aine played very well on defence with blocks and turnover and drove to the basket at every opportunity.

Second quarter Cora opened the scoring with a basket and Penny burst into the game with four unanswered baskets to turn the game in Brendan’s favour and very hard running both on defence and offence.

With additional scores from Nicole and Emma to leave the score at half time 19 – 6. Start of the third quarter Maira got two baskets then a big three pointer from joint Captain Caoimhe Fernane and a basket also and leaving the score 28 – 11 at the end of the third quarter.

Start of the fourth quarter Nicole got two baskets from inside then three from Cora and one from Chloe and Caoimhe. To end the match was Ava with a big three-pointer.

A great performance tonight by all the girls both on defence and offence there was a great spread of scores.

Every one of the 12 up their game tonight after a tough weekend of games. Thanks to St. Joseph’s for an exciting, sporting game. MVP this evening was Penny Costello and well deserved.

Her work rate when she gets on the floor and she drives the team on. The Match Coaches on the day Lar, Stephen with Deirdre and Aoife as managers on stats. This is a team to watch for the future.

St. Brendan’s scorers: Penny Costello 8, Cora Meehan 8, Caoimhe Fernane 7, and Nicole Power 6.

It was an early start back in Dingle last Saturday morning. The home side TK Chorca Dhuibhne got off to a great start 12 to 6 in the first quarter scores coming from Brendan’s were one from Caoimhe Fernane and two from Chloe o Brien.

Brendan’s won the second quarter by 2 points to 4 points with both baskets coming from Cora Meehan.

Very low scoring game with great work rate  coming from Emma Counhan both defence and offence. Half time score was 14 points to 10 in favour of the home side.

The home side got the better of Brendan’s in the third quarter putting up 9 points without reply. Brendans lacked the enegry levels shown in previous games and looked a tired team. Maybe a combination of the early start and the travelling and other activities that weekend.

Leaving the score at  the end of the third quarter 23 to 10 leaving a lot of work to do in the fourth quarter. St. Brendan’s came out with more aggressive play in the fourth quarter going at the opposition and starting to play their game but it was too little too late.

They gave a good account of themselves drawing the last quarter 6 points a piece. With scores coming from Maria Walsh, Cora Meehan and Penny Costello. Leaving the final Score 29 points to 16 .

MVP was Emma Counihan her work rate when on the floor was exceptional .

The match Coaches on the day were Lar, Noele with Susan as manager on stats.

Next up for Brendan’s is an away game against Gneeveguilla on the 5th November at 5pm in Rathmore sec school.

First game of the season in Moyderwell for the U-12 Team 2 girls, the preparations went well with the whole team training hard on Mondays doing skills with Fergal and team training with John on Thursdays. First game was against St. Paul’s Killarney with a sell out crowd.

First quarter was a fast pace start with both teams scoring early on with Hayley Powell, Emma O Brien and Lilly O Connor on the scoreboard ending the quarter 8 to 4 for Brendan’s.

Second quarter saw Brendan’s play excellent defence and picked up a few injuries for Caoimhe Siatsh and Anna Spring, but the two got back up and continued playing excellent defence ending the second quarter with 18 to 4 for Brendan’s with great scores from Addison Quirke, Anna Spring and Hayley.

Start of the second half with Brendan’s on a roll with excellent scores from Emily O Dowd, Hayley, Roisin Murris and Lilly and the score was 30 to 5 entering the fourth. What an excellent start to the season final score 33 to 9.

Second game of the season in Castleisland against St. Marys at 9am less than 24 hours since the first game for the U-12 Team 2 girls.

First quarter started well with scores from Haley Powell and Anna Spring, but scores were hard to come as Castleisland have a strong defence but Brendan’s kept them scoreless with great defence from Juliette Pierce ending the quarter with Brendan’s leading 4-0.

The second quarter saw Brendan’s show great skill and determination, but the shots just would not go in and at half time Mary’s led 8 to 4. Start of the second half and Brendan’s had excellent scores from Anna, Haley, Emma O Brien, Addison Quike and Jenny Scannell but still trailed St. Mary’s by 16 to 13 in a close and exciting game.

In the final quarter Brendan’s played excellent defence yet again with Aoife Carey, Lilly O Connor, Caoimhe Nolan, Hannah O Sullivan, Emily O’Dowd and Mia Healy.

The game could have gone either way as Brendan’s were unlucky not score a few baskets in the last few minutes. Credit to Castleisland who produced some good defence late on to hold on for the win.
