Boys U-18 Div 1 County League St. Pauls’ 41 St. Brendan’s 42

St. Brendan’s travelled to St Paul’s in Killarney last week and from the start it was clear that the game was going to be close. It was basket for basket by both sides in the opening exchanges and Brendan’s held a one-point advantage at the end of the first quarter. Both sides continued to trade baskets and St.Paul’s bridged the gap to lead by 2 at half time.

The contest continued in the same vein throughout the third quarter and with some great rebounding by Shane O’Connell and Kasparas Bulrytlas, Brendan’s went 5 up going into the final period. The final quarter started off with very intense defence by both sides with James Roche managing some great steals and with Ama Lelental finishing well, Brendan’s maintained their lead. However when Ama got into foul trouble it fell to Adam Manley to take over the scoring role with the sides level with 30 secs to go.

Brendan’s tried to count down the shot clock and it paid off as with 4 seconds to go Kasparas was fouled and went to the line making one of his two shots. Despite St Paul’s best efforts and with some great defending by Tadgh Callanan, Brendan’s held on to win by 1. Final score St. Brendan’s 42 St Paul’s with top scorers for Brendan’s Ama Lelental 17 Kasparas Bulrytlas 12.
