St. Brendan’s 37 Caherciveen 18
The St. Brendan’s U14 C team had a comprehensive win in their league match against Caherciveen in Moyderwell on Wednesday night. The home team raced into an early lead with a couple of great baskets from Phoenix Costello.
Caherciveen were immediately put on the back foot and with Fionan Egan directing the play from his position as point guard, further scores were added by Danny Jeffers and Steven Barrett.
The quarter ended with St. Brendan’s leading 12 – 6. The second quarter saw the introduction of Rory Clifford and Eoghan Bradshaw and the boys proved instrumental in controlling the game for St. Brendans. Jack Kearney was outstanding in defence and with the assistance of Cormac Gallagher and Conor Cronin each contributed to St. Brendan’s tally. Half time saw the boys leading 21 – 12.
The third quarter was a more even affair as the visitors battled to get back into the game. David Feeley and Diarmuid Kelly came on to great effect and each boy worked tirelessly for his team.
Their efforts meant that St. Brendans maintained their lead going into the fourth. Despite the best efforts of Caherciveen, St. Brendan’s continued to extend their lead in the final quarter with Paddy McMahon, Sean Naughton and Eoghan Bradshaw each registering very important baskets to see St. Brendan’s winning out by 37-18 in the end.
