Students In Tralee Schools Win Awards At BT Young Scientist And Technology Exhibition

Ethan Ward, Philip Tracey and Conor Flaherty who won a BT Young Scientists Award this afternoon.

STUDENTS from Tralee schools were successful with their entries in this year’s BT Young Scientist And Technology Exhibition which took place online this year.

The awards in various categories were announced this afternoon in an online ceremony.

The Science Foundation of Ireland award and Technology Junior Group 1st place went to first years Conor Flaherty, Ethan Ward, Philip Tracey of CBS The Green for their ‘Using GDPR compliant QR codes in the hospitality sector to simplify Covid 19 contact tracing’.

The IE Domain Registry award and Social and Behavioural Junior Individual 1st place went to Preston O’Keeffe of CBS Tralee for his project, ‘The impact of Infodemic on possible Covid 19 vaccine hesitancy’.

Dara Newsome, David Hughes and Conor Bradshaw from Mercy Mounthawk won a Special Analog Devices Award for Best Project in Technology for their ‘Adapted Spectacle System for Dementia Patients’.

They also took 2nd place in the Technology Group section for the project, which has already taken two prestigious awards at Scifest 2020 awards in November.

Rachel Feeley from Mercy Mounthawk came 2nd place in the Social and Behavioural Junior category for her Analytical study on the Psychological Impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Well done to the CBS and Mounthawk students on their great achievements and to their teachers for their encouragement.

Elsewhere in Kerry, the Chemical, Physical & Mathematical Senior Individual 1st Place went to Conor Casey in Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare, while Jim Culhane and  Paula-Eve Culhane of Tarbert Comprehensive took the Technology Junior Group 3rd place.
