IT may be only October, but some students at CBS The Green Tralee have been very busy since going back to school and are looking forward to displaying their scientific prowess at Ireland’s most prestigious competition for schools.

The school has three projects through to the BT Young Scientist Competition 2021, which is due to take place virtually on January 6th to 8th next year.

First Year students, Conor Flaherty, Ethan Ward and Philip Tracey have a Group Technology Project entered in the competition titled  ‘Using GDPR compliant QR codes in the Hospitality Sector to Simplify Covid 19 Contact Tracing’.

Second year student, Preston O’Keeffe’s Behavioural Sciences Project entry is called ‘The impact of “infodemic” on possible Covid 19 vaccine hesitancy’.

Meanwhile, Transition Year student Joel Varghese’s Social and Behavioural Sciences Project is called ‘A Statistical Analysis on the Level of Knowledge and Attitude to Meningococcal Sepsis and Meningococcal Vaccine (ACWY) in Irish Adolescents’.

Teachers Jennifer Stack, Máire Fitzgerald and Eilín Enright are delighted the students projects have been shortlisted from thousands of entries to qualify to compete at the virtual event and are pleased there is such a huge interest in STEM subjects in the school.
