WITH around 1,200 entries, it’s fair to say the Kerins O’Rahillys ‘Last Man Standing’ competition was a resounding success raising a tidy sum for the club’s expenses.

The competition focussed on the Allianz National Football League over the past seven weeks and while there were around 50 ‘survivors’ at the end, the points-based system saw Tadhg Reen emerge as the winner of the €500 first prize.

Tadhg, from Farmers Bridge, came down from college in Galway on Friday night to collect his winnings from the organising committee.

“It’s still sinking in really that I won,” said Tadhg who plays football and hurling with Na Gaeil and Tralee Parnells respectively. “I saw the post on Facebook on Sunday night and thought ‘that’s some other Tadhg Reen surely’ but then I went through the scores.”

Tadhg said he will be putting his winnings towards expenses in College. He thanked all at  Kerins O’Rahillys and especially his friend, TJ Heaphy, who persuaded him to pay the €10 entry fee.

On behalf of Kerins O’Rahillys, John O’Connor congratulated Tadhg and thanked everyone who entered the competition which saw a huge increase in entries on last year. He also thanked Tom Hoare who updated the scores every week and Nora Corridon for social media work.

As one fundraiser ends, another is about to begin next week with the club’s US Masters Challenge. Again, hundreds have already entered, selecting six golfers with the total score of all six golfers to count. There’s an initial cost per line of €10 – each subsequent line costs €5; there is a first prize of €750 with second netting €150 and third €100.

Tickets are still on sale from club players and members, The Klub Bar at the clubhouse and online via a QR Code. The QR code is on posters which can be scanned in shops all over town. Payments are facilitated by Clubforce and fully encrypted.
