A HUGE amount of money was presented to the Kerry Hospice Foundation on Tuesday thanks to a fundraiser held in memory of an Ardfert woman.
A charity walk to remember Betty McGrath was held from the Junction Bar in Camp on Saturday, September 10 which saw a large crowd of family and friends of Betty take part.
Betty was known to many through her florist business in Listowel town. She passed away on September 14, 2021 in the Palliative Care Unit at UHK.
The family wanted to give something back after the amazing care she received and organised a charity walk which raised over €26,2030 on a gofundme page. The Moriarty and McGrath families thanked everyone for donating and taking part in the walk.
That was the sentiment echoed by all at the Junction Bar in Camp on Saturday afternoon as a large crowd gathered in the sunshine for a charity walk to remember Betty McGrath.
A native of Ardfert but domiciled in Listowel with husband Denis Moriarty and children Grace and Denis, Betty was known to many through her florist business in the town.
Diagnosed in August of last year, she bravely battled cancer but passed away on September 14, 2021 in the Palliative Care Unit at UHK.
The family wanted to give something back after the amazing care she received and organised a charity walk which has raised over €21,000 so far on a gofundme page which is still taking donations (click here).

“It’s a very emotional day,” said Betty’s sister Antoinette. “There’s a fantastic turnout and the weather is just incredible. It’s a lovely tribute to Betty whose first anniversary is this Wednesday.”
The Moriarty and McGrath families thanked everyone for donating and taking part in the walk.
“We’re delighted with the turnout today and we’ll be forever grateful to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit,” said Betty’s daughter, Grace Moriarty.
There was also a raffle on the day for a signed Irish soccer jersey which was won by Bridie O’Connor and two bouquets of flowers went to Ria O’Sullivan and Michelle O’Sullivan after their tickets were drawn out.
Just after 12 noon, the walkers made off for Killelton Oratory on the Dingle Way where they tied a white ribbon on the holly tree there to remember a loved one.
They then went on to Bunavoonder Strand, Bunahow, Kilgobbin Church of Ireland, Camp Upper, Ashe’s Cafe, Stepping Stones, Curraduff and back to The Junction Bar for refreshments on what was a lovely, poignant day to remember Betty. Scroll down for photos…
THERE’S just days to go until a 12km walk in aid of Kerry Hospice which will also remember a much-loved north Kerry woman.
The Betty McGrath Walk will take place on Saturday, September at 12 noon from the Junction Bar in Camp to mark the first anniversary of her passing.
Betty McGrath from, Moyessa, Listowel and formerly of Baltovin, Ardfert, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2021 and passed away a month later on September 14.

She received amazing care from the staff of the palliative care unit and the Moriarty and McGrath families wanted to give something back. A gofundme page has been set up to raise funds and has already raised over €11,000. It can be accessed by clicking here.
The organisers have secured extra parking at the back field of the Junction Bar. However if the day is wet, they recommend carpooling. There will be Kerry Hospice buckets on the day for donations.
Each person on arrival will receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a signed Irish soccer jersey, kindly donated by Irish interntional John Egan, and two bouquets of flowers sponsored by the Moriarty and McGrath families.
If participants wish, they can stop at the 6km mark and return to their cars from Bunavoonder strand. There will be complimentary food after the walk at The Junction Bar.
The walk takes place from 12 noon on Saturday, September 10 from The Junction Bar, Camp, walking along to Killelton Oratory on the Dingle Way, then on to Bunavoonder Strand, Bunahow, Kilgobbin Church of Ireland, Camp Upper, Ashe’s Cafe, Stepping Stones, Curraduff and back to The Junction Bar.
