TEAMS from all over county were in Na Gaeil GAA club for the 14th Carmel O’Connor Memorial Blitz.
The tournament saw the Under 10 teams play against each other with only a few showers threatening to spoil the fun.
Clubs taking part were Abbeydorney, Na Gaeil, Austin Stacks, Kerins O’Rahillys, Duagh, Churchill, Scartaglin, Corca Dhuibhne, Dingle, Moyvane, Annascaul, Castleisland Desmonds, Finuge/St Senans and Ballymac.
“There were 17 teams taking part from Daingean Uí Chuis to Duagh with around 200 girls taking part, a record participation for the event. We’re absolutely delighted and blessed with the weather so far,” said one of the organisers, Liz Twomey. Donations on the day were made to the Tralee Branch of the Irish Red Cross. TEN clubs were represented at the 12th annual Carmel O’Connor Memorial Blitz on Saturday in Na Gaeil GAA grounds.
There were 12 Under 11 teams from Na Gaeil, Austin Stacks, Kerins O’Rahillys, Ballymac (2), Abbeydorney (2), Scartaglin, Duagh, Listowel Emmets, Castleisland Desmonds and Annascaul clubs and they enjoyed a number of games throughout the morning and early afternoon.

“It’s been a great success again and Carmel provided us with lovely weather. Members of her family are also here today. Thanks to the Red Cross and members of the Community Policing Unit for their help,” said one of the organisers, Liz Twomey.

GIRLS teams from eleven clubs around the county headed for Na Gaeil GAA club on Saturday to remember a Garda who lost her life over 10 years ago.
The Carmel O’Connor Under 10 Garda blitz saw teams from Na Gaeil, Duagh, Annascaul, Finuge/St Senan’s, Austin Stacks, Listowel Emmets, Castleisland Desmonds, Dingle, Abbeydorney, Scaraglin and Kerins O’Rahillys play games in good spirits.
Kerry star, Garda Aidan O’Mahony, was also there to pose for photos and give medals to the girls.

“It’s an initiative to get young girls out playing,” said one of the organisers, Garda Liz Twomey, who also remembered her late colleague. “Carmel was a member of an Garda Siochana who lost her life after a battle against illness so it’s a way of remembering her,” said Liz.
