MOTORISTS and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution throughout Thursday as some roads and footpaths remain hazardous after freezing temperatures overnight.
Kerry County Council says the county bounds on N21 and N22 are reported to be passable with care but many local and regional roads, particularly on high ground and in sheltered areas are extremely slippery this morning.
A Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland has been reissued again for tonight and Friday morning which will see out the current cold spell as milder conditions and rain is forecast for the weekend.

Met Éireann says it will be very cold again tonight with another severe frost causing icy stretches on the roads.
Again, impacts will include difficult travelling conditions, low temperature issues for vulnerable people and animal welfare issues. The warning is valid from 5pm on Thursday to 11am on Friday.
Temperatures will reach around 4°c today in the Tralee area and it will freeze overnight again. Temperatures will rise to 7°c on Friday and overnight into Saturday when the rains come.
MET Éireann has issued yet another Status Yellow – Snow/Ice warning for Kerry taking effect from this evening.
They say there will be scattered snow showers with some possible accumulations and icy stretches too. The warning is valid from 5.30pm this evening to 9am on Wednesday.
Looking locally, temperatures will fall to around 1ºC in the Tralee area overnight. There is likely to be some snow tonight with rain likely also in the early hours of the morning.

Wednesday morning and early afternoon will be showery with dry weather later. There is more snow possible in the early hours of Thursday morning, but that will clear for a dry but chilly day.
At the moment it looks like temperatures will rise for Friday and the weather should also be dry with some sunny spells.
GRIT is being provided by Kerry County Council in 108 locations throughout the county today.
Although last night wasn’t as cold in the Tralee area as previous nights, sections of roads are still dangerous and caution is advised. The cold spell continues for the rest of the week. It will be cloudy for the rest of Tuesday in the Tralee area with freezing temperatures again overnight.
Wednesday will be sunny, but very cold again and temperatures will dip even further over Wednesday and Thursday night, getting as low as -5 degrees in the early hours of Friday morning.

THE Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell, has thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support during the recent adverse weather conditions.
Over the course of several days, the Kerry Local Coordination Group – including Kerry County Council, An Garda Síochána, the HSE, Kerry Civil Defence and Kerry Fire Services – coordinated preparations for the storm and the response on the ground. The Group also liaised with the regional response team and the National Emergency Coordination Office.
Up to 150 council staff were involved in treating routes and in the clean-up operation around the county and personnel were mobilised to clear snow when it was safe to do so.

Ahead of the storm, some 400 tonnes of grit were made available at over 90 locations around the county for use by members of the public.
“I would like to thank our Operations staff for their Trojan work over recent days as well as our Municipal District offices, engineers, and emergency contact personnel. Our staff on the ground managed to get the county moving again after some very busy and tiring days and nights,’ she said.
“The volunteers in the Civil Defence provided tremendous support in transporting people in urgent situations. There was also great assistance from Chief Supt Tom Myers and his colleagues, the team at Irish Water, and Teresa Donovan, Head of Primary Care with the HSE.”
“The Council is satisfied with the level of preparation at all levels of the organisation. There was very effective collaboration with all the public bodies involved,” she said.
LAST night at 11pm, Met Éireann extended its Status Red snow-ice warning for the whole of Ireland with immediate effect.
The warning has also been extended until 3pm on Friday. Heavy snow showers will bring accumulations of significant levels with all areas at risk.
Blizzard conditions will develop from the south Thursday afternoon and evening as heavy snow and strong easterly winds bring snow drifts northwards over the country. Eastern and southern coastal counties will be worst affected.
THE Kerry Local Coordination Group met again at County Buildings today to review preparations for the cold weather conditions expected over the coming days with regard to weather advisories issued by Met Éireann.
The salting of major routes across the county will continue as required in the coming days. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be cautious whether routes have been treated or not and to proceed with care.
As a precaution, Kerry County Council is placing supplies of grit at dozens of locations around the county over the course of the next 24 hours. Members of the public are asked to use this grit only where urgently required.

The Group has reminded members of the public to look in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours to ensure they have adequate heating and food supplies for a few days.
Updates will be provided on Kerry County Council social media channels and more information will be available on its dedicated Alerts website via the Kerry County Council website.

THE Kerry Local Coordination Group met at County Buildings this morning to review preparations for the adverse weather conditions forecast for later this week.
While it looks like, at this stage, Kerry will escape the worst of the low temperatures and snowfall, the group which consists of Kerry County Council, An Garda Síochána, Kerry Civil Defence, Kerry Fire Services, and the Health Services Executive is taking no chances.
Status Orange and Yellow Snow/Ice warnings have been issued this afternoon, but Kerry is not included as a county affected so far. However, freezing temperatures are forecast and a Status Yellow low temperature warning is in place for the entire country.
The Group assessed the current weather forecast and reviewed all the preparations which are being made for the expected freezing conditions in the coming days.
Continued below…
Salting of priority routes overnight will continue over the coming nights and road conditions will be closely monitored. Additional routes will be treated as required.
Drivers are advised to never assume that a route has been treated and to exercise caution when driving in freezing conditions.
Owners of vacant premises are asked to shut off their water supplies as a precaution in case of frozen pipes.
The Group also asks members of the public to look in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours to ensure they have adequate heating and food supplies for a few days.
The Kerry Local Coordination Group advises members of the public to prepare now for the cold conditions. Useful advice is available from the website, www.winterready.ie.
Updates will be provided on Kerry County Council social media channels and more information will be available on its dedicated Alerts website via the Kerry County Council website.
THIS is a sign that Met Eireann are confident we’re going to be pretty cold for the next week.
A Status Yellow Weather Advisory has been issued for Ireland as exceptionally cold weather is forecast for next week with significant wind chill and severe frosts.
Disruptive snow showers are expected from Tuesday onwards, particularly in the east and southeast. The warning is valid from today until Friday, March 2 at 12 noon.
Given the likelihood of extremely cold conditions, the Kerry Local Coordination Team met this evening at County Buildings to assess the situation.
The meeting included representatives from Kerry County Council, An Garda Síochána and the Emergency Services. The team will assess the situation again on Monday and will be monitoring the situation closely.
Meanwhile, around these parts, Saturday will be dry with bright or sunny spells. It’ll be cold though (obviously!), with highest temperatures of 7 to 8 degrees in a moderate southeast wind.
Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow Weather Advisory warning for the entire country from tomorrow evening until Saturday.
They say very cold wintry weather will develop from Wednesday night onwards with
showers turning wintry in many places, from Wednesday evening to Saturday and falls of sleet and snow expected.
The heaviest of the snow fall is most likely over Ulster, Connacht, north Leinster and west Munster and especially so on high ground.
Judging by their daily forecasts though, it looks like we’ll escape the worst of it down here. The warning is valid from Wednesday at 6pm to Saturday at noon.
AFTER the dense fog and freezing temperatures last night, Kerry woke up to a frosty landscape this morning with roads and footpaths very icy.
Well Met Eireann this morning has issued another Status Yellow Low Temperature Warning for the country for tonight with severe frost developing this evening and continuing overnight and Friday morning.
Continued below…
Lowest temperatures will be 0 to -5 degrees but we’ll escape the worst of it down here, as it will be coldest in Leinster. The warning was issued at 11am and is valid from 6pm this evening until noon tomorrow so be careful driving, cycling or walking outdoors later.
This afternoon they also issued a Code Level Orange alert for dense fog. Fog is expected to be dense in Kerry overnight and is expected to linger in some areas until noon tomorrow.
Kerry County Council is asking motorists to drive with extra care, to use fog lights as required and to allow additional time for journeys. Pedestrians and cyclists should wear high-visibility clothing, use lighting and take due care if they are out and about.
