The Network has chosen International Women’s Day to show solidarity with two essential support organisations for women in Kerry, on whose services, so many women continue to rely on in their hour of need.

“This 5km walk is a way to support our fellow Kerry women, to raise funds for these much-needed resources, and a time to reconnect or get to know other women in a more relaxed, unhurried way,” said Elin Sorensen, KBN’s Chairperson.

“The event is also a way of encouraging women to get out there and make the most of the beautiful county we live in while racking up a whole lot of healthy benefits. Walking is definitely not just about physical exercise, fresh air and beautiful scenery: it can be a time to talk with like-minded people, challenge yourself in ways you hadn’t thought of, and grow your confidence with each physical and mental challenge you overcome along the way. And these are all benefits that feed right back into your life and into your business or work.”

THE latest Kerry Businesswomen’s Network event took place in Tralee last Wednesday in Ballygarry House Hotel.

KBN in collaboration with ‘Moving On’ — the employment programme for women in Kerry — brought Karen O’Reilly, founder of Employmum and one of Silicon Republic’s ten ‘Future of Work’ Influencers to Kerry to talk all things Flexible and Remote Working.

In the last Census over 450,000 women in Ireland stated their role as ‘home duties’. Karen shared research conducted by her company Employmum which found that the availability of flexible work was listed as the most important factor by women when returning to work, more important than salary.

Continued below…

.

“Flexibility is what people want in the workplace. They want to be treated as adults and trusted to get the job done…….It’s time for women to be able to say I really want to work, and I want to be there for my children too,” said Karen O’Reilly.

Colette O’Connor (HQ Listowel), Elin Sorensen (Chairperson KBN & GHQ Design), Karen O’Reilly (Employmum), Lisa O’Flaherty (Moving On), Lisa Fingleton (Moving On) at the event.

“Let’s hope Kerry businesses are listening and become leaders in the flexible work revolution by changing the landscape of flexible work in Ireland. Who doesn’t want to attract top talent, retain staff, and end the gender pay gap by allowing female employees to grow their careers, rather than having to choose between work or family?” said Elin Sorensen of KBN.

.

According to Lisa O’Flaherty from Moving On, “We have worked with 150 women over the last three years and 95% them are looking for part time or flexible work so that they can balance work with caring and other responsibilities. We have found that employers who are willing to be a little flexible, are able to tap into the amazing talent pool of women returners”.

THERE was a very good turnout at the latest event hosted by the Kerry Businesswomen’s Network on Friday at The Rose Hotel.

‘Pitch Masterclass — Pitch, Present, Propose’ saw KBN in association with Kerry Local Enterprise Office host the event which was open to male and females and suitable for managers, team leaders, business owners and entrepreneurs.

Those attending received advice on how to pitch, present and make proposals in a more articulate and professional manner while maintaining that personal touch.

Linda Coyle, a Speech, Language, Voice Therapist & Vocal Coach, dispelled the myths around confidence and speaking/public speaking and looked at the mind-body-voice relationship and how this can help or hinder us.

Catherine Noonan, ‘The Pitch Coach’,  taught about the prep work, the research and the audience, crafting the key message whether it’s corporate presentations or pitching an idea, content, structure and impact.

People from all business backgrounds were represented on the day as you can see from photos supplied by Tara Donoghue Photography below…
