THE ABBEY Inn is hosting a fundraising gig this coming weekend in aid of Tralee’s Ruadhan Hennessy who suffered extensive burns to his legs during a chip pan fire in Canada back in August.
The ‘Rock for Rouie’ concert will take place on Sunday October 4 in the bar from 3pm until late with all proceeds from the event going towards helping Ruadhan cover the high cost of his medical bills (see previous story here).

There will be music and entertainment on the night from a whole host of bands including: Comic Book Heroes, Oracle, Silkcut Blues Band, DJ Garry Fitz, Jimmy G & Johnny Bongos and other guests.
So far, fundraising efforts have managed to raise just over $9,000 of the $12,000 goal with friends and organisers of this latest effort hoping that the gig will go a long way toward reaching this target.
The event will take place in the upstairs in the bar with admission set at €10.
if you would like to donate to the efforts, you can do so through the fundraising page HERE.
THE Tralee man who suffered burns from a fire at his home in Canada is overwhelmed with the support he has received over the past few days, with people from home and all over the world contributing almost $7,500 towards his medical bills.
Ruadhan Hennessy, a former resident of Gallowsfield and Blennerville, has been living and working in Canada for the past two years. He was injured while trying to put out a chip pan fire and suffered second and third degree burns to his legs, chest and neck (see previous story here).
Due to a delay in processing his work permit, Ruadhan wasn’t covered for health insurance and so faced crippling medical bills.
A friend of the family set up a gofundme.com account on Wednesday with a target of $7,000 to covers some of the medical costs. By Saturday they had reached that target and by Sunday morning it was up to almost $7,500.
The family posted the following message on the gofundme.com page;
“We are beyond overwhelmed by all the love and support. We could not imagine raising our goal as we are so beyond grateful and humbled for receiving this amazing gift.
Realistically we can expect this to cost well over $15,000 ….every trip to the burn unit costs $763.00 and it feels like we have a new total daily!
We are doing our best to focus on Ru getting better and we can’t express our gratitude to all of you. We are so incredibly thankful for everyone’s support through this difficult time. Love Siobhan , Ru , Emma and Cian xxx”
A WELL known Tralee musician and soccer player, needs help in Canada with his medical bills, after sustaining second and third degree burns from a chip pan fire accident.
Ruadhan Hennessy, a former resident of Gallowsfield and Blennerville, has been living and working in Canada for the past two years.
When a chip pan caught fire in Ruadhan’s kitchen last week, he quickly removed it from the room, but in doing so slipped on a pool of water on the way out the house.
The slip caused oil to fall on both his legs. Splashback also landed on his chest and neck causing second and third degree burns. As his skin began to peel soon afterwards, it became clear he was in need of urgent medical attention.
The pain and stress of suffering such an accident is one thing, but what has transpired since has put Ruadhan and his wife Siobhan along with her two children, one of whom is autistic, in a more precarious position.
When Ruadhan came to Canada on a two year visa, he had travellers insurance which covered him until his visa expired in June.
Ruadhan and Siobhan applied for permanent residency with Siobhan sponsoring him so he could continue to live and work in Canada legally.

However, due to his work permit taking up to 3-4 months to process, they have not received it as of yet. Now, health insurers in Canada will not cover his skin graph operations without a work permit.
Due to the injuries, Ruadhan has had to take time off work without pay and is now looking at mounting bills reaching upwards of $10,000 (€6810.59)
Ruadhan, is a well known face on the soccer pitches of Kerry having played for a number of clubs over the years, he is also an accomplished lead guitarist.
Both of these talents he has brought to Canada and achieved success with both on the pitch with local side, Calgary Foothills Darts, and on the stages of Calgary, with his band ‘Blades of Steel’ who are currently in the process of recording an album.
Friends of Ruadhan’s have set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ page to help with Ruadhan’s climbing medical costs and the current situation he faces. You can donate to it HERE
