A KERRY food and drink producer directory and website was launched at the Institute of Technology Tralee on Tuesday.

Taste Kerry, is a free book to aimed at chefs, distributors, hotels, restaurants, retailers and local customers to remind them of the wealth of home-produced and home-grown produce that Kerry has to offer.

The directory contains a listing of over 150 local Kerry food and drink producers. A new Taste Kerry website was also launched.

“When it comes to food producers, the individual is as important as the product, because they bring their own passion, beliefs and character to bear on what they do and they all have their respective stories to tell,” said Chairperson of Taste Kerry, T.J O’Connor.

“In this publication and website this is reflected, as well as events and experiences related to food and drink,” T.J added.

The book will be distributed countywide to all businesses which provide a food and drink offering, in an effort to encourage them to use local produce to provide people who live in Kerry, and visitors, with a unique food and drink experience. It will also be sent to food distributors both nationally and internationally.

It is envisaged that Taste Kerry will become the recognised local authority for setting quality standards on the present state and future direction of food and drink within Kerry. Scroll down for photos…

THIS weekend sees the return of the Taste of Tralee fair at Manor West Retail Park and Saturday proved a busy day for the stallholders.

Producers from all over Kerry set up their stands and there was a real family feel to the day as cartoon characters from Kingdom Party Pals kept children entertained.

Melanie Harty of Harty’s Jellies and Taste Kerry was very pleased with how the day turned out when we spoke to her late Saturday afternoon.

“It’s been very good and quite busy as well. The weather is good so people are out and about. We definitely get a boost from events like this and people get a chance to sample the product before they buy.  They also get to meet the people behind the product which is great,” said Melanie, who told us they’ll be returning for the last fair of the year in early December.

In the meantime, there’s still time to get down to Manor as the fair takes place from 12 noon to 6pm again today.
