There were many talking points from the debate last night and as usual, the great Irish public took to Twitter to express their views on the event at the Gleneagle. Here’s some of the tweets about the debate posted last night…

The stage is set, the Kerry TDs in attendance were, Martin Ferris, Michael Healy Rae, Brendan Griffin and Tom Fleming.

One of our local councillors, Sam Locke, got the evening going with a rendition of Rose of Tralee.

Cancer sufferer, Jackie Crowe, gave an impassioned speech about the health service.

The Kerry accent was one of the stars of the show

And finally, the great Irish public’s fascination with all things Healy Rae got an airing as well.

Vincent Browne will bring his ‘Peoples Debate’ to Kerry this month.

AFTER a false start,  the ‘Vincent Browne People’s Debate’ is on its way to Kerry this month for an event that will no doubt bring its heated moments between the public and local politicians.

The event, which was originally scheduled to take place in April and which was later cancelled, will arrive at the Gleneagle Hotel on Monday June 22 with the audience encouraged to arrive at 7pm.

The show is unique in that it offers a very up, close and personal opportunity for local people to air their grievances with one to one questioning of their elected officials.

Past debates from around the country have certainly thrown up some controversial and talked-about moments, with issues such as water charges, housing and roads all coming to the fore.

Reasons for the cancellation in April boiled down to TV3 saying they wanted to plan a series of special broadcasts during the day from Kerry as it is such a large constituency.

The time frame would not have allowed TV3 ample time to prepare for a larger production so they decided to arrange the debate for a later time.

If you want to attend, TV3 are advising people to arrive at the Gleneagle Hotel on Monday June 22 at 7pm for the debate which will start soon after.

Last Friday TV3 announced that the scheduled Kerry ‘People’s Debate’ has been cancelled without any new date being set.

Reasons for cancellation are down to TV3 wanting to plan a series of special broadcasts during the day from Kerry as it is such a large constituency.

The current time frame would not have allowed TV3 ample time to prepare for a larger production so they are planning something a later date.
