TESCO stores in Tralee and Killarney will be bringing a little magic to their customers in early December by hosting the inaugural Magical Reindeer Food Fundraiser in aid of their Charity partner, Temple Street.

On Saturday and Sunday, December 5-6, staff in all 149 Tesco stores countrywide will be preparing and selling pouches of reindeer food for just €2, with the aim of raising €100,000 to help buy life-saving medical equipment for the children’s hospital.

Hoping to bring the Christmas Eve tradition to homes all over Ireland, families can sprinkle the reindeer food on their lawn to help guide Santa’s reindeer to their house.

To support the launch, Tesco has also taken a deeper look at the different traditions that make Christmas the most wonderful time of the year.

A survey of over 1,000 families revealed that 75% leave milk and cookies out on Christmas Eve; 72% never forget to leave carrots out for Rudolf; a considerate 10% pen a ‘thank you’ letter to the man in red while 14% make sure that Santa has a pint of Guinness waiting for him each year.

When asked how Santa enters their home, 71%confirmed he arrives down the chimney, while 21% insist he ‘magic’s his way’ each year. 4% of the more logical respondents believe he simply comes through the front door.

More surprisingly the survey showed that Ireland’s homes are trading in the traditional spruce for its faux friend, with a staggering 72% choosing an artificial tree over the dedicated 24% that always buy a real one.

Whatever your approach to getting prepped for Santa this year, Temple Street and Tesco are calling on shoppers countrywide to add one more tradition to their list, and buy a bag of reindeer food to support this fantastic cause.

The Magical Reindeer Food Fundraiser will be taking place in Tesco Tralee in Manor West and the Square and in the Killarney store at Killarney Park, on Saturday/Sunday, December 5/6 from 11am – 6pm.
