‘The Gathering’ Is A Must For Traditional Music And Dance Lovers

IRISH music and dance enthusiasts from around the world will toe tap their way to Killarney next month for the 20th Gathering Traditional Festival.

With concerts, céilís, sessions, music masterclasses, dance workshops and more – The Gathering is a celebration of the best of Irish culture.

Headquartered at The Gleneagle Hotel, this festival runs from February 27th to March 3rd and will attract Irish culture enthusiasts from across the US, Britain, Europe and Ireland.

Topping the concert bill for 2019 are trad supergroup Altan, as well as Mike McGoldrick, John Doyle and John McCusker, Dordán, Paddy Keenan, Frankie Gavin and Dermot Byrne and The Bonny Men.

The hugely popular Gathering céilís return to The Gleneagle Hotel Ballroom for 2019 and include performances by Neily O’Connor, Uí Bhriain, Eddie Lee, Striolán Céilí Band, The Kilfenora Céilí Band and the Johnny Reidy Céilí Band.

A special tribute concert to the music of Clare and Sliabh Luachra includes performances by the Lawnhawns featuring Andrew McNamara, The Conifers and The Sliabh Luachra Band with Paudie O’Connor, Gatehouse, Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch & Paul De Grae.

The 2019 traditional singers’ concert features Róisín Ryan, Meatí Jo Sheamuis, Séan Garvey, Pat Sullivan, Richie Fitzgerald, Tom McKenna, Christy Cronin, Jim Walsh, Marion and Kathleen McCann.

New to the 2019 festival programme Des Dillion will bring his children’s puppet workshop – perfect for children of all ages and definitely a hands on experience!

Instrument masterclasses will be taught by Mary McNamara, Mary Bergin, Niamh Ní Charra, Bryan O’Leary and Andrew McNamara.
