New Kerry Rose, Julett Culloty.

NEW Kerry Rose, Julett Culloty said she is looking to the future with optimism after a tough 12 months when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

The 25 year old from Kilcummin, speaking after last night’s ceremony, told the Rose of Tralee’s Communications Officer, John Drummey, that she is in good health now and looking forward to the Festival.

“I was diagnosed with cancer this time last year. I’m hoping now just to get back to work and see what the next few months hold for me. I have to go for check-ups every three months to keep on top of things, but the scans are looking good so everything looking really good at the minute,” she said.

With regard to winning the Kerry Rose, Julett was delighted but shocked.

“I really, really, really did not expect this. It was a complete shock really but I’m so happy,”  said Julett who was supported at the event by her parents, five brothers, two sisters, cousins and friends.

Julett is a social care worker. Having graduated from I.T. Tralee in 2011 she has worked in a number of different projects across Munster working with disadvantaged children and children in care.

In her spare time Julett enjoys football, soccer, music and walking.
