JULETT Culloty was in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Friday night for her last engagement as Kerry Rose 2015 and to hand over her sash to the new winner.

We caught up with her at the hotel, which is hosting the Kerry Rose 2016 selection event tonight, to find out what the year has been like for her.

“It’s been just incredible, the last few months especially went by so fast. I thought after last August it would get a lot calmer and there wouldn’t be that much to do, but that wasn’t the case,” said the Kilcummin native.

“I wanted to make the most out of the year so I’ve been doing charity events and things over the past couple of months. I’ll be really sad now to hand over the sash tonight,” she said.

So how has the role affected her?

“It’s opened up a lot of doors for me and I’ve been able to do many things I wouldn’t have been able to do because of being Kerry Rose. It’s something that I’ll always remember and be very grateful for,” said Julett.

And now she’s part of the Rose of Tralee family, she’ll be staying involved?

“I had amazing support from 2014 Kerry Rose Mary Hickey when I won last year and  whoever wins tonight I want to be there for them and help them as much as I can, like Mary did for me. I hope to be involved with the Rose of Tralee for a long time.”

• The new Kerry Rose 2016 is expected to be announced sometime after midnight tonight.
