Tralee-Based Project Wins European Language Label Award

The Vocal In Need group based at IT Tralee.

A TRALEE-BASED group who aim to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps by providing an online training course and a smartphone app are among the winners at the annual European Language Label (ELL) Awards.

Vocal In Need designed the training app and smartphone app for both security and NGO staff to better communicate with refugees and migrants who do not speak English.

This project is led in Ireland by IT Tralee in partnership with a consortium of Vocational Education and Training institutions from eight countries.

Project coordinator Kirstin Brogan said: “The ELL Awards is a magnificent opportunity to celebrate the value of languages and inspire others. We are very happy and proud to be one of the winners this year.

“We’ve had great feedback from users of the apps with 97% reporting that they would recommend it to their colleagues. To have that seal of approval from the user group and now, this recognition from the European Language Label Awards – we’re delighted!”

The ELL Awards — which are managed by Léargas, the national agency for Erasmus+ in adult education, school education, vocational education and training services, and the youth sector — are an EU initiative to celebrate the most creative and inspiring communities, organisations, and volunteers at the forefront of language teaching, learning and promotion.
