Tralee LEA Still In Top Ten Highest COVID Incidence Rates In Ireland

THERE were 316 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Tralee Local Electoral Area in the 14 day period up to Monday, October 18, according to figures available on the Government’s COVID-19 data hub.

This still leaves Tralee LEA in the top 10 highest incidence rates in the country, along with Kenmare and Listowel LEAs.

Tralee LEA has a 14-day incidence rate of 956.5 per 100,000 of the population, substantially above the national incidence of 493 per 100,000 as of last Monday, making it the the tenth highest rate per LEA in Ireland.

It’s another substantial rise on the number of cases for the fortnight up to October 11 (263), but it’s still just the third highest COVID case rate of the six LEAs in the county.

In all, there were 1,206 new cases recorded in Kerry during the fortnight period, up from the 909 cases recorded in the fortnight up to October 11.

The LEA with the  highest incidence in the county is Listowel which saw 292 new cases and a rate of 1018.9 per 100,000, the seventh highest in the country.

Kenmare LEA was next with 247 new cases, a rate of 985.6 per 100,000, the ninth highest in the country. Castleisland saw 118 new cases and a rate of 688.2 per 100,000, both also above the national average.

The Killarney Electoral Area saw 168 new cases, a current 14-day incidence rate of 567.4 per 100k of the population.

The only LEA in Kerry below the national average is the Corca Dhuibhne Local Electoral Area with 65 new cases and a rate of 458.4 per 100,000.

There have been 9,731 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kerry since the pandemic began according to the latest data.
