Tralee LEA’s COVID Incidence Rate Is Sixth Highest In Ireland

THE number of new COVID-19 cases in the Tralee Local Electoral Area (LEA) remains high in the 14 day period up to Monday, April 4.

There were 770  new confirmed cases in that period compared to the 857 in the fortnight up to Monday, March 28, according to figures available on the Government’s COVID-19 data hub.

Tralee LEA has a 14-day incidence rate of 2,330 per 100,000 of the population, above the national incidence of 1,670 per 100,000 as of last Monday. It’s the sixth highest incidence rate in an LEA in the State.

The incidence rate in Kerry is 1,584  per 100,000, the 11th highest county in the country. In all, there were 2,341 new cases recorded in Kerry during the fortnight period up to Wednesday.

The Castleisland LEA is the next highest after Tralee, seeing 336 new cases and a rate of 1,959 per 100,000.

The Killarney Electoral Area saw 542 new cases, a current 14-day incidence rate of 1,830 per 100k of the population. Listowel LEA saw 501 new cases and a rate of 1,747 per 100,000.

Two LEAs in Kerry have incidence rates below the national average. The Corca Dhuibhne Local Electoral Area saw 231 new cases and a rate of 1,628 per 100,000.  The Kenmare LEA had 371 new cases, a rate of 1,480 per 100,000.

The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kerry, since the pandemic began according to the latest data up to Wednesday, March 30, is 36,591.
