Tralee Rotary Teams Up With Lesotho Rotary Club For Project

At a meeting in The Ashe Hotel on Thursday were part President of Tralee Rotary Club Michael Slattery, President Michael Lynch, Mannetti Ramaili Irish Honorary Consul to The Kingdom of Lesotho, Grace O’Donnell of Tralee Rotary Club and Paul Hanrahan of Action Lesotho.

TRALEE Rotary Club has partnered up with Maseru Rotary Club, Lesotho and Action Lesotho to apply for a Rotary Global Grant for a market garden project in Lesotho.

The project was discussed on Friday when Mannetti Ramaili, the Irish Honorary Consul to The Kingdom of Lesotho Former Ambassador from Lesotho to Ireland, visited Tralee on Thursday.

The project was initiated by past President Michael Slattery. Rotary Global Grants are granted to those who reach certain objectives. The project must be sustainable — include plans for long-term success after the global grant funds have been spent and include measurable goals.

It must also align with one of Rotary’s areas of focus. Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus.

“This is a very worthwhile sustainable project that will ensure a future for generations of families.  This project will help some of the poorest people in the area to provide a self-sufficient long term source of income for themselves and their families” said Michael Slattery.

The paPaul Hanrahan, Chairperson of Action Lesotho, Michael Lynch, President of Tralee Rotary Club, Michael Slattery Past President, Tralee Rotary Club and Grace O Donnell Assistan Governor Rotary Ireland met with Mannetti Ramaili Irish Honorary Consul to The Kingdom of Lesotho and Former Ambassador from Lesotho to Ireland and former Minster of Tourism on Thursday to discuss the project.
