WITH retirements come tributes and the sporting world was very busy today dishing them out to a Kerry legend.
Here’s what people from all walks of life were tweeting about Kieran Donaghy’s retirement from the Kerry team…
The best teammate I ever had bar none. The ultimate team player. Never gave up. Was never beaten. And he was some craic in the dressing room as well. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís ! pic.twitter.com/um0dUgVZcc

What a journey it’s been with this guy! The big man with the most infectious personality. Lucky enough to play with some legends & he is one of them but he’s out on his own as the best teammate you could ever have. Thanks @starryboy14 💚💛 pic.twitter.com/v8nveqawz8

Kieran Donaghy, a winged chariot.
A kestrel soaring on the currents of the long days.
A giant with the softest hands.
Gooch’s big brother.
Author of chaos.
Abrasive, defiant, magnificent.
The emblem of Kerry resistance.

Would like to wish Kieran the very best in retirement. A great player and inspiration for Kerry. I flew to Dublin in hope in Sep ’14, Donaghy was the main difference against Donegal and turned it into a fabulous w-end! A warrior and an inspiration. #respect https://t.co/eMWI6wMXqz

Donaghy is a legend. One of the last survivors of a great Kerry team. Star redefined the game and how it could be played in so many ways. One of the best that I’ve seen.

Good luck, Kieran Donaghy and thanks for all the great craic on the field! #KerryGAA

Best wishes to Kieran Donaghy who has announced his retirement from inter-county football. He has seen some great days in #CrokePark with the Kingdom! pic.twitter.com/6ndqFTD0Wu

Donaghy retiring marks the end of an era. One of the last from that great Kerry team; a team that up until about a year ago was the greatest I’d seen. His move from midfield to full forward in 06 was a masterstroke and watching him in full flight was a pleasure. Good luck to Star

The best line written about @starryboy14 was @MalachyClerkin‘s ahead of the 2014 final: “Donaghy is the tenner Kerry have kept finding in the arse pocket of their jeans.”

There was a time Kieran Donaghy was the most lethal and exciting attacking weapon in football. That he was still a go-to guy for Kerry in his last season is the greatest statement on a marvellous career. Great player, better fella.

“Who’s crying now baby!!!!” (to Armagh keeper Paul Hearty in 2006) and “Well @JoeBrolly1993 what do you think of that???!!!!” are two of the greatest lines ever deliverd by a @Kerry_Official player. @kerrytodayrk Kieran Donaghy thank you for everything @starryboy14

Kerry people were so lucky to have Kieran Donaghy – the happiness we got in 2014 with a ‘broken conveyor belt’ may never, ever be surpassed. Best of luck, @starryboy14 pic.twitter.com/PAnlLnuUNK

Donaghy was the kid who wrung every last enjoyable drop out of playing football. Competitive, honest, talented and got the best out of himself. Played with a joie de vivre every time he took the field. Great guy off the field too. Selfless with his time for supporters and media.
