Munster Corn Ui Mhuiri Round 3

Clonakilty 4-7

Tralee CBS 1-9

Tralee CBS have qualified for the Corn Ui Mhuiri Munster Colleges Quarter Final by the skin of their teeth as they went from a strong position at the top of the group before play, to a reliance on other group results following a disappointing defeat to Clonakilty on Wednesday in Clondrohid, Co Cork.

The Green got off to an horrendous start conceding two goals in the opening ten minutes from which they never really recovered. Ivan Parker was once again the pick of the Tralee players on view and despite being double-teamed throughout, he claimed six of The Green’s seven points in the first half.

Trailing by 2-3 to 0-7 at half time, the game was delicately poised throughout until Clonakility netted again on 50 mins to put some daylight between the sides. Another goal five minutes later put the nail in the Green coffin before Michael O’Donnell netted late on to put more respectability on the scorline.

With two to qualify, an anxious wait resulted in Macroom’s win over Colaiste Colm saving The Green’s bacon and the Tralee school qualified in their group in 2nd place.

They will now play either Rochestown, St Brendans Killarney or Pobal Scoil Chorca Dhuibhne(all of whom topped their groups) in the quarter finals in late January.
