SEVENTY cyclists set out from St Pat’s GAA club on Saturday morning to remember a much loved local character.
The fourth Jimmy Duffy Memorial Cycle saw men, women and children brave the biting cold winds to travel to Castleisland and back.
The numbers were down on previous years – over 160 took part last year – due to the weather conditions but spirits were high among the participants.
When they returned there was refreshments, tea and coffee in Quane’s Bar to warm the bodies.
Later on Saturday night there was an anniversary Mass in Curraheen at 8pm and after that, a music session in Quane’s Bar, where hot food and refreshments were served.
Jimmy Duffy, who lived in Blennerville all his life, was a fine musician and avid cyclist.
He was 67 years old when he died as a result of smoke inhalation after fire at his home on Church Street, Blennerville, in January 2010.
