TEAMS from Tralee, north Kerry and west Kerry and beyond gathered for a football blitz on Saturday for a great cause.

The Under 10 blitz, sponsored by Terrys Butchers in Oakpark, featured teams from 10 clubs playing each other at Pat Healy Park in Ballyrickard.

The event is normally held each year with funds raised going towards the North Kerry Ladies Board, but the organisers were touched by local Garda, Mary Gardiner’s fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer Ireland and decided to help her campaign instead.

It was a great success and all the children had an amazing time. Scroll down for photos…

THE team at Woodies Tralee have once again pulled out all the stops to raise over €6,000 so far for great causes in the company’s annual charity campaign.

That total was surpassed on Friday night after a well attended table quiz at The Mall on Friday night in The Mall Tavern raised around €600,  bringing the total so far to €6,300.

Over the past seven years, the Woodie’s Heroes campaign nationwide has raised over €2.5 million for Irish children’s charities and the Tralee store staff have excelled in their own contribution to that total.

The four charities to benefit from the campaign are Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland; Make-A-Wish Ireland;  Down Syndrome Ireland  and Childline by ISPCC.

Tadhg O’Regan, Manager of Woodies Tralee, said it was a great effort by staff to raise so much money and explained how it was achieved.

“We had craft fairs instore, organised by Philomena Mannion, over two days which raised over €2,000. That was such a success Philomena put together an amazing hamper and held a raffle for it which raised another €600,” explained Tadhg.

There was also a collection at the tills which customers supported generously. “It’s been a challenging year for everyone, but the customers dug deep and they didn’t let us down which we appreciate greatly in Woodies,” said Tadhg.

A jersey day and cycleathon organised by staff also contributed towards the total and the quiz on Friday night saw staff and friends have a great time and many took home some great prizes sponsored by a range of businesses. Scroll down for photos…
