Free Parking At Fels Point Site During Rose Festival

The Council lands at Fels Point.

WITH the town set to be a very busy place over the next week, the Council has decided to provide motorists with extra places to park during the festival.

Birds Amusements have taken over much of the Brandon Car Park and across the road at Parklands, while the new Dome in Abbey Car Park has seen that space taken away from motorists, so parking is already hard to come by.

So to provide extra space, Kerry County Council will provide free parking at the Fels Point site adjacent to the Rose Hotel and the Dan Spring Road from tomorrow, Thursday, August 18 for the period of the Rose of Tralee International Festival until next Wednesday. While Fossetts Circus is also at the site, there is still a large space for parking.

Irish Cancer Society To Offer Free Health Checks At Manor West Shopping Centre

.

THE Irish Cancer Society has announced that it will be offering free health checks in Manor West Shopping Centre, Tralee this week.

As part of the ‘Your Health Matters’ Early Detection Roadshow, nurses will administer health checks to the public from 9am – 6pm on Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19, free of charge.

The health check is a free walk-in service. It will include a blood pressure check, body mass index (BMI) and carbon monoxide (CO) reading and information on cancer prevention, screening and ways to help spot the early signs of cancer.

.

Each health check will take approximately 15 minutes and nurses will also be on hand to discuss any changes in health or concerns about cancer a person may have. A referral for a GP will also be arranged where further help is required.

Early detection and diagnosis of cancer is essential to improve health outcomes. The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a growing backlog of patients with cancer symptoms who have not presented or are waiting for urgent time-critical diagnostic services.

As this disruption could lead to later stage presentation and increased cancer mortality in the coming years, the Irish Cancer Society will continue to deliver Early Detection Roadshow events across Ireland throughout 2022.

This initiative seeks to promote positive lifestyle changes, increase awareness of cancer symptoms, and improve medical care-seeking behaviour for the early signs of cancer.

This year the roadshow has been to 10 different shopping centres in Dublin, Cork, Waterford and Limerick. To date, over 13,000 people have engaged with the information and over 900 people have received health checks in 2022.

SOME day for a cycle.

Over 100 cyclists hit the road on Saturday morning for a spin out west which has raised thousands of euro for the Kerry branch of the Samaritans.

Conditions were very hot — especially on the climbs of Conor Pass and Gleann na nGealt — as the participants set off from the John Mitchels GAA Complex in Ballyseedy on a choice of two routes. The 75km route took cyclists to Camp, Annascaul, Inch, Castlemaine and back to base. The 125km  route took in the Conor Pass, Dingle, Inch, Castlemaine and back to Tralee.

As you can imagine, the cyclists saw the West Kerry peninsula at its very best and if anyone was feeling the effects of the heat, there will be a full backup of medical services available across both routes.

Approximately €8000 has been raised to date thanks to the generous donations, entry fees from cyclists and generous suppliers that contributed to the food stops and the barbecue which was enjoyed by all back at base. Scroll down for photos supplied by Tralee Manor West Bicycle Club…
