PHOTOS: Hundreds Take Part In The Tralee 10k Race

IT was spitting rain for the Tralee 10k on Saturday but that didn’t deter over 220 participants who took to the roads around the town.

“We’re delighted, the running conditions were great in the rain. Everyone is happy and home safe so it all went off well,” said race organiser, Jim McNiece who was at the finish line at Tralee Town Park.

This was the second last race of the year in the Tralee Marathon series with one more event next month.

“We have the half-marathon on October 29 and there’s not many places left for that so people need to register soon,” said Jim.

Conrad Watt was first man home in 34:57, followed by Joe O’Connor in 36:14 and
Conor O Mahony third in 36:18.

First woman home was Mary O’Shea in 42:06, with Ciara Egan in second at 43:30 and Marie Hayes in third with a time of 44:40. Scroll down for photos…

Man Dies After Road Traffic Collision In North Kerry

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision in Lisselton, in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted shortly after 2:00am following a collision involving an MPV (Taxi) and a pedestrian on the R553 at Ballydonohoe, Lisselton near Ballybunion.

The pedestrian, a male in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry. The driver, a male in his 40s, did not require immediate medical treatment.

The scene of the collision is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and traffic diversions are in place. The local Coroner has been notified. Gardaí in Listowel are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

They are particularly appealing to any road users with camera or dashcam recordings, from the R553 between Ballybunion and Listowel between 1:30am and 2:15am this morning, to make footage available to them.
